what are some very budget orentated ideas for the transmission cover part of the floor in your rod or custom?

i am at about the point were i need a solid floor and im running preety low on ideas other then to rip the floor out of something else and cut out what i need. or atempt to take a small sheet of stock metal and bend it enuff to work.

what have you used in the past? keep in mind the low budget aspect;)

TIA

How about a 25 gallon steel drum? Like the ones gear oil & chassis grease come in that have the air powered pumps on top. I'm sure you can cut one up to fit your needs. just make a template out of posterboard first.

Use an oil pan turned upside down....big part toward the firewall...

Depends on what you're working on. I'm collecting parts for a RPU, don't plan to channel it a bunch or anything wild. I bought a trans cover/floorboard section for a '35 or'36 pickup for $15 or 20 off of eBay; this unit is cool cuz it has the opening for the floor shift, and a slot for the parking brake to the left of it.

I don't have any quick ideas for a tranny cover,
but, I have seen a fella use a big mailbox for a driveshaft cover. It also covered the tailhousing of his tranny.

I used 18 gauge sheet metal for mine, made up some cardboard templates and then bent and welded it. I got a bunch of channel so its pretty big, but I still have less than 20.00 bucks and my time into it.

I'll email you some pics if ya want.

if it don't make ya dirty it aint yours http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You're running a TH350? I'd visit the scrapyard with a torch and cut the floor out of a Chevy pickup truck that was bent to cover the trans with minimal wasted interior space.

This is for a car that will eventually be upholstered? Not a race car, right?

a friend of mine is using a hood from a riding lawnmower in his t-bucket. it actually looks pretty sweet, fits the floor of his bucket really well and seems nice and sturdy. thought it was a pretty clever soution.
