As winter starts settling in, its time to make progress, what did you get done this weekend..
took a few days off and did some maintenance on the car before heading off to the GG show in Charlotte this weekend. beat on the wagon some also.. ran the wagon up to about 105/110 mph on the back stretch during the two lap stint..Also lined up against Tudornomore on Hwy 29 for some street action.. some high RPM's is good for the motor...

Met up with 5-6 other guys and cruised our old cars up to a state park and took my kids hiking in the hills.

It was nice and warm this morning so I did a 75 mile run into the foothills on my bike.
When I got home I re-arranged my shed so I could park the bike for the winter. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Got up at 3am on sat. and drove 780 miles round trip to pick up a 31 A sedan. there and back in 15hrs.Sun. Unloaded it and took the fenders off. almost rustfree shit is amazing, only snapped off 1 bolt and I think it was cross-theaded! Never see that with a Wisconsin car!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Got my Lokar "Spoon" gas Pedal and cable installed and operating correctly. I guess in a way its a sign of good machining, but the arms fit on the center swivel so tight it takes a lot of wiggling and prying to get the damn things off.
Wouldn't have been so bad, but I had to take the swing arm off three times before I got the pedal/swingarm at the right relationship for full movement of the cable.

Well Friday I worked on the parts truck, trying ot get it ready for inspection and registration. Fixed the lights, windshield wipers, changed the oil, adjusted the #$*&! carb. Saturday I tried to bleed the brakes, found out the piston for the rear brakes was all clogged with crap so now I have to get a master cylinder. Installed a new starter solenoid and battery cable and cleaned out the interior. It's still ugly as hell. Worked just a bit on the engine for the '54. Painted some pulleys, put the oil pump on and made sure I bought the right clutch.

I found out that not only did my car need a tune-up, it needed an entire freaking point in the dual-point distributor! And now I know that a car with a dual-point distributor can actually run for over 2,000 miles with a single point in there.

ok,
reworked the windshield frame so now that it actually fits pretty good(less glass)i think im gonna make a plexiglass pattern first before i send it to the glass shop
actually BOLTED the cab and bed to the body,so now its solid.
ground down some welds i have neglected in the past,,,seat frames etc..
(did i mention i made a master cylinder set up last weekend?)
basic stuff, but each lil step gets closer and closer...

started drinking thursday and stopped last night. managed to destroy a paycheck, but not my car, other than wearing the hides off it from burnouts. i think drugs were involved too. fought off a merciless hangover today, then my friend phoned in a panic to say she had been robbed. needed to talk and then told me what a security company was going to charge her to put up some security bars. she was about to get robbed again. and the bars were ugly white rectangles. i told her to cancel the job and let me take care of it. got one made this afternoon. now i will sleep

The only prob I see badpat is the bars are so cool that the thieves will probably steal them as well. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sat. Went to a swapmeet early, got 2 more '40 wheels with old unused 16" biasply"s on them, 2 Centerline frontrunners with Moroso tires on them and 2 '53 F100 front brakes with backing plates and spindles.
Got home and me and Hot Rod Ron worked on his Coupe, and we also swapped pans on a oval Bug.
Sun. Put the windshield and back glass in my G/F's '63 Falcon, and put the rest of the chrome back on ( it got painted last week). Ron came over and we worked on his Coupe some more.

I poured the foundation for my shop on Saturday. 36 x 30. I been waiting 6 years to build this thing. I am totally stoked. Sunday morning I went to a swap meet in Woodland. Found a bone stock 32 axle. The seller said he's had it on the barn wall for at least 30 years! Its been a GOOD weekend.

Final fitted the floorpans in the 39. Was cuttin a piece of 16 gauge tin with my expensive Wiss snips and they freakin broke sendin part of the blade into my cheak!! Cut me pretty clean. Snips got thrown to the concrete and make a nice little spark. Sent the wife to Wally World for a compass to mark some cuts arount the trans tunnel. She brought back this plastic POS which quickly broke as I tried to adjust the tension on the hinge thing. Ran out of tin sheet doin the trunk floor so I fixed the snowplow on the lawn tractor. Swept out the garage good, damn leaves get in bad with the doors open!! Winter's comin!!
I dragged home a real ratty 56 Pontiac Laurentian four door hardtop. It's rotten so bad I had to tie the doors together through the outside handles to keep them from flying open or off. On the plus side, all the stainless is perfect inside and out, including all the interior trim. The steering wheel is like new and it has a powerglide auto column, and all the windows go up and down like new. I am going to salvage what I need for my other piles of junk, then pawn the rest on egay. It was a good weekend.

My wife and I took the Freak-conoline camping with the rest of her family on the annual campout. It's really comfortable to sleep in. The cool thing is...while everyone is going through the "re-pack the tent and gear blues" we're just moving the clothes outta the front seat and into the back of the van and then we're ready to roll! Tents are for suckers! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

scored a *complete* gas torch/welder setup for $500, full tanks and the old man gave me about 20 different nozzles plus 20ft of new line. got a bench grinder with pedestal for $25, and my friend scored a huge vice that rotates vertically for $20 off the same guy... pretty good weekend in the tool area, ill deffinately be going back for his sheet metal tools.
was driving around and stopped to look at a 55 desoto, all complete, minimal rust but needs work... the dude has the single carb hemi out back... would someone know where the ID numbers are located for these engines? shitloads of vintage tin is sitting in the barrio.
found out some parts i baught for my 56olds were the wrong sizes, so need to return them, set me back a few days... gutted the interior for new seats and floor. will get pics when i find the damn camera chord

The I.D. numbers for the old hemis are on the top front of the block...right in front of the valley cover. Hot Heads has the web site with the numbers to identify what it is.

I wish i could say that - that actually happened over Labor Day wknd. flat track racing in my back yard and hit a pine tree when the front tires didnt turn in the sugar sand.
This past wknd was productive - Cleaned and organized the shop, scrubbed the floor, washed all the sand blast material and dust from blasting the engine bay off the 61. Gutted the interior and wiring, scrubbed the inside clean, started laying out the EZ Wire kit, cleaned the bottom of the hood and started prepping for paint, started making a brake pedal to booster cplg from a heim jt and some stuff from Lowes.

Took the stinger on my mig apart to see why it wouldn't feed wire. Ran wire up to the handle, ran wire from the tip thru the handle. No problems. Put everything back together and wire hangs up in the handle. Repeated above steps with same result. Had a beer... Contemplated putting mig on E-Bay...

Worked on my new Chevy 52 sedan delivery. Preping it to fire the engine and see if it runs. changed oil and filter. Gutted out all the extra wiring that was not doing anything. Rearanged and terminated what was left in the engine compartment. Under the dash is next. Bent up a new fuel line from the pump the carb. installed the radiator hoses and pulled the valve covers for inspection, all looked fine. cleaned and preped another set of script valve covers I got from my brother as the ones on the engine were pounded by the gorillas that swapped it last.
Sunday morning I went to the swap meet but did not buy much, couple Offy breathers and an air cleaner. Had lunch with Deyo and went back and messed with the delivery some more.
