Well I picked up a cuople 1 3/4" venturis, side mounted float bowls, and some weird linkage on the bottom. These appear not to have a movable(up and down)needle jet, but I'm not 100% sure yet. I'll try to get a couple pictures up tonite. The #'s onm the side of the body are, AUC 6040 AC, AUC 6040(and it has these stamped #'s under that, 6055).

The part number tells me they are definitely Skinner Union (S.U.) carburettors possibly from an MG or other BMC produced vehicle. AUC549 is the part number for MG TD carbs which were 1.25 inch S.U. carbs. The TD was a very popular model in the U.S. so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding parts for these carbs. The sizing relates to the piston diameter and is pretty easy to figure out just by measuring the diameter of the top housing.

I hve a bit of stuff leftover from my MG days, so as long as you're not in a rush to get info I can give you some good stuff from MG manuals in respect of servicing and tuning them. I'm not sure that my parts listings will be good for the right part no's though as the numbers on your carbs seem to date them much later than the stuff I was playing with.

Those sound alot like a couple that I saw at a swap meet today!

I hope this is small enough to fit and big enough to read the fine print.

This one might be better or worse. Is late model carb as fitted to B series engines as single or dual setup.

Uhh....I didn't get them from a swap meet, I uh....borrowed them outta some dudes rice rocket http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Carps thanks, I measured the engine side of the carb opening(down stream from the venturi), and was 1 3/4". Now the linkage on the bottom moves the neddle jet up and down, so why the variable linkage versus a screw that moves it and leaves it?

Ok, I just looked at them some more. The linkage(for the neddle jet)is a cold starting device, you move the jet down to richen the mixture to aid in cold starts, and the screw that the shaft goes through changes the jet height for tuning. The only SU's I've messed with had the concentric floatbowl(the ones that people put on H-D's)and are pretty different.
