Here's a pic of my 1929 florida home. It's white, and has been for 75 years. My wife and I can NOT figure out a color scheme. The green shingle roof keeps throwing us off. We've painted a dozen different sample areas, but are stumped and thought maybe some of you photoshop pros could have at it. We are thinking earthy, but kinda bold. This pic is about 5 years old- the fence is kinda greying a bit. Thanks! Oh yeah, NO flat black or flames, although flake would be kool! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey, is that one of those little concrete garden elfs in front of the house? Sure is a life like looking one.

Everything I do to the front of the house makes it look like stripes...so I just added matching natural wood...and of course the Anglia(Thames)...enough smoke and you won't even notice the house!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How about a bigger garage, for starters?

Oh, since the pic is 5 years old I figured that the boy would have grown some. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif </font>

I'm no photoshopper, but how about a really light green? Mint green....or seafoam green...or how about a light coral? I think either would go with the green roof....

Once again another way off topic post.
You guys have enough posts under your belt to know better.
I think there'sa darn good reason it's been white for 75 years.
It's got a small area of paint as opposed to glass and that area is broken up into a lot of subtle horizontal and bold verticle panels. painting it anything but a solid color staarts looking like a carnival building.
I think I would leave the white walls and paint the front door and the eaves, (and porch if it's painted) a forest green, and leave it at that.
If you paint the whole house a dark color it will visually disappear.
Think about this...If you have neighbors, they have grown accustomed to what your, very neat house looks like. Whatever you o to it they aren't going to like atfirst and maybe not ever. If they "notice" you they may also notice they don't like all the rusty old wrexks in the back yard!
Stay low profile...

Here ya go. Just a tad different... I the blue-gray kept looking like baby blue against the green, so I did away with the green roof alltogether and put a re-hipped darker gray roof on. I think this leads the eye away from the heaviness of the room jetting out front. That front room would have a flat roof with a slight taper for rain run off. Speaking of rain, instead of gutters, butterfly the roof so that the lowest point is the left front corner. On that corner add a 20 inch long or so "gutter" made from aluminum or stainless U channel or something like that and finish it off yourself with a swirled/machined finish....Instant waterfall/reverse fountain that could fall into a homebuilt concrete catching pool with a concrete sculpture similar to one of your paintings. The lengthened windows are more proportioned to the new roof also. I also drew some ghost lines that show the side profile behind the tree.
But for my real opinion, I say stay with darker, cooler colors like blues, greens, or grays with similar values as the roof to complement the green and not contrast, like, say a red or orange would. Two tone it with one of the colors as the trim color instead of white. I think the white is what's throwing you off with the test splotches you've tried out.
