Howza Brutha,
Here are some pics of the process on Miss Carrage. So far I have spent a total of $90 and this is what I have-
The body whichis the remains of a '26 Willys Knight
The dash-which is a mystery to me $10
A pair of 16" Ford solides with good rubber!
A set of Kelsey's which were on a trailer I hauled off
A '38 Ford Banjo wheel
A flathead Ford 6-it and the truck were free
A starter swith with keys
A clutch/brake assmbly out of a F-2
A 30's era Ford steering box and short shaft-free
A set of old gauges from a 30's era luxury sedan for free
Master cylinder-free
Big commercial headlights-$60-plus the mexican blanket
'28 Model A shell and radiator-$20
A pair of juice backing plates-free with hardware
A Model A rear axle with spring-free
Now I am trying to scrape the cash togeher to by a frame from and front axle from Danny and I will be ready to assemble. I am now searching for a set of drums and two more backing plates, a gas tank-something safe, a set of '47 Ford taillights-preferably Lynx Eye with the bluedots, and a three speed tranny.
So the second part to my post is this, I have found a set of friction shocks. Are they a good thing? Would they bee good for this crazy contraption? Are tube shocks a bette r way to go? And if the friction shocks are good then how are they removed from the frame they are on?
Thanx,

I have never run friction shocks...
But I've TALKED to guys that HAVE-
All I've heard is "they SUCK!"

But....
They do have alot of "style points",
And they might go well with your "theme"?
(If you have one...?)

I've got friction shocks on the front of my 27 Mod. I'm not even sure I can feel that they're there! Maybe they're better than nothing, but I doubt they'd be as good as any tube shock.

Yeah, I know, looks dorky right now. But I did get the wires broke free off od the old Buick axle, mounted the new backing place onto the Model A rear, split the wishbones and rolled it all into place.
Kinda a productive Saturday.. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just mu opinion, but if you already have friction shock use them ALONG with some tubes. The friction shocks are good for up and down movement but the tubes will give you better dampening for the lateral movement. I thought about this a while ago and thought it would be a good idea. Then actually talked to someone who ran this set-up and 'splained that it worked very well...dammit! I thought I was going to be original http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif regardless the setup with both types of shocks makes sense and seems to work well from what I have heard. If you don't have friction shocks available then I would just go with tubes but I wouldn't remove friction shocks just for the hell of it.

If designed right they should work as well as a friction clutch.
After all, they work on the same principles.
