pan / shovel . . . actually the last year of the generator style case . 70 is when they went to cone motor from what I know . It has " pan " style heads that were made for two years after that , that were better flowing / breathing etc , so it is basicly ( technicaly ) a full on pan motor . I am just relaying what I have been told so far , as I just got it and dont know ALL the details . the only other Harley I have built was a flathead so I am all eyes & ears on this one .

Last year for pan was 65..the only electric start pan ever....what does the serial number on the left hand case say. It could be a 65...would probably say 65FLH0000. I can't remember which style cam cover for 65 and older...some were ribbed, some flat like what you have.

Yeah I am planing on a fairly mild build , like 80 inches , standard carb & cam . . . nothing fancy . just a real solid runner that starts everytime and wull run hard and MAYBE keep up with the evo's . . . we will see wbout that . I have three milk crates of parts , a nice looking trans , a bent wideglide frontend , and a couple wheels & tires , and some stuff & things http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif wish me luck !

Hatch hopefully you wont get tired of me asking tech stuff in that case . . . I will have a lot to learn on this one, but I have alot of friends who currently ride & build bikes so I should be in good company http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now that I'm looking at your pic, I noticed the bungs for external oil lines...I think that was 65 only. S&S makes a nice 84" stroker...add one of their carbs and an Andrews B grind cam....BIG FUN!!!!

Actually was quite easy to start...I always kept fresh points in it...also proper valve adjustment. It was the recipe in my previous reply for the internals...also Andrews 1st and 3rd gears....tire smoker!!!

Here are the numbers I found . . . . inbetween the jugs above the little inspection hole bolt on the left side of the case , it says *69 FLH 7250* and down around in the front under the motormount is says 177 246 011 .

Then in my world travels ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)...I'd say its a 69 shovel converted to a pan top end.....cool...should make a bitchin scooter...the frame could be any number of years.

Here's a PIC of a chopper I built for a friend this year. Done in the early 70's tradition. Except for the front end...Wanted decent brakes on this one. http://www.imgmag.org/images/cyoung67/bikes/_pauls.jpg
Here's a link to some other PIC's. Choppers forever (http://members6.clubphoto.com/colin482996/1054753/guest.phtml)
Hope we aren't pissing anyone off with these bike PIC's

The Heads look to be top oilers. I think they were around 61 to 65. Maybe it's the PIC but the pans look awful high.

You always come up with the coolest stuff.
I got some friends here in town who tend to hoard old Harley parts for a the proverbial rainy day. Keep me posted what your looking for and I'll ask around.
Hey, I Still want to borrow a bumper, but the 51 is finally getting put together and I'm not quite ready for it, I'll let you know.

No shit G-man will do . Glad to see that thing getting closer . I still have the bumper in the garage and it isnt going anywhere . hit me on here , or call me , Amy-Lu and Bob are a good way to get ahold of me .
Hey Mike cool bike stuff. Get a hold of my buddy Kenny (my road dawg and drag partner) He deals Harley parts for a few vendors and has a collection of used parts that he is always moving. He builds them as well so could answer questions too. svenchopshop@cox.net He could also be talked into trades. Good souce to have believe me. See you in SD soon. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The top oiler is 64-5 and e-start 65. Rev I think the pans look high too maybe he set the pans on top of the D rings.Mike dont plan on catching any evo-s with those heads on there.Panheads dont flow much air at all.I had a couple of em and fast they aint.Make sure you take them to someone that is real familiar with them not a car motor guy.Cost Me in the end with My first Pan. If you want more power sell those heads and buy some S&S heads. They are a screamin deal for the price.Cool project--FEDER
