I was supposed to attend a Panel Jam at Sulpy’s in Ledgewood, NJ a few weeks ago. Due to my step-Dad’s failing health, I chose not to go. I contacted “Unkl Ian” and asked him if I sent my longboard up, could I get him to have someone do a little striping on it. I hated to impose, but I thought that this would help me feel as though I hadn’t missed the Jam completely.

As it turns out, the Saturday of the Jam was one of the nicest days I have ever shared with my step-Dad. He passed this past Thursday and it was just his time. I’m glad that I stayed home, but I want to send along my sincere thanks and appreciation to the pinstriping “family” for their thoughtfulness. I’ve added photos of the striping they did on my board. I especially wish to thank “Unkl Ian” Griffith, Joe Sulpy Sr., Joe Sulpy Jr., Alan Johnson, Clay White & Ralph Hancox (and Rebecca Sulpy for packing the board and returning it to me). I also want to thank Ray “ElVago” Smith for the BEAUTIFUL panel that he sent along for me by Ralph. My wife & Mom both like it much better than the skateboard!

I haven’t been involved with pinstriping that long, but in a short time, I have made some fantastic friends. I hope everyone has some idea just how much this show of kindness means to me and I look forward to thanking each of you in person somewhere down the road. Be well & God bless, Pat

You'll note that the wheels are brand new. They are Kryptonics "Krypto-Hawaii" wheels I bought at Town & Country Surf Shop when we were in Hawaii. Hope to scuff them up soon. I can still cruise, but DAMN! it hurts when I go boom......

Very cool story. There are a whole lot more good folks in the world than bad.

The only thing I got done this week is this self portrait. Notice the gray hair.lol http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm thinking about trying my hand at striping. I'm an artist myself but have never tried striping before, although I do have a steady hand. My good friend and 80's glam rock icon, Rikki Rockett or Poison fame is a great striper. Have you guys ever met him? He's one of the nicest people I know. He stripes toilet seats while he's on tour and recently had a Von Dutch show.

I was told that I should practice on glass. What are your favorite paints and where do you get your striping supplies?

Hey Action Girl, pinstriping comes up all the time on the HAMB. You need Mack brushes and One Shot sign paint (Eastwood has everything). Good luck.

Pat, I'm very sorry to hear of of the loss of your step-dad but glad you were able to spend some quality time with him before his passing. Condolences to your whole family.

Major kudo's to Unkl Ian and the rest of the folks for their thoughtfulness. Makes a tough time in your life alittle more bearable.

Acouple of things I've done recently:The first is a creeper I bought at a yard sale for $2.00.Not in very good shape but good enough to stripe.
Next is a metal tool box about 3'long similar to a carpenter's box with tray. Also $2.00.Scuffed it a bit, threw some Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer on it ans squirted it with Hammertone Silver. The name is self-explanatory.

Just thought I would actually post some stuff this week...nothing car related -- however, this is only because I haven't had the opportunity (anybody want their car photographed?). All of it is black and white because I've been too lazy to scan any of my new colour stuff...maybe I'll get around to it this week. Some is for school, some personal...let me know what you think.

P.S. Rare images of hightest enclosed!!!

Pat, like everyone else, I'm sorry to hear the news.

Molly, I like your photos, thanks for sharing.

I have nothing to post on here this week, except the sodapopping I've done for a few requests here. I kinda like how the butterscotch paint came out on this, so maybe ill post that again.

Great work by all as usual this week! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Skatefink, sorry to hear about your step-dad. Glad you got to spend some quality time with him, though.

I can't remember if I posted this pic already, or not. If I did...sorry for the repeat. Maybe I SHOULD wear a mask ALL the time when I spray One Shot. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Thanks everyone for the kind & gentle words. It's all good. It was his time and at least now he is in peace (I hope!). My Mom is taking it all pretty well. I'll let her know how thoughtful y'all are.
Now........... Here's a panel that Ray "El Vago" Smith had sent to the Jam for me with Ralph Hancox. Since I didn't attend, it was included with the returned skateboard. It is one FANTASTIC piece and will always be treasured. Just can't believe how kind some people can be......

I don't have anything new this week. but I gotta say, man Brush, week after week you blow my mind with yer work!!

hey Miss Molly, Do you like Man Ray? Your stuff reminds me a lot of his work I really like it. I think he was an excellent artist.

This is a picture of my son. It may not be Hot Rod art but he is the most incredible thing in my life. He keeps me sane. Six months old and teething and damn if those teeth ain't sharp!

It's really scarey that he is as good as he is. I for one would have never expected that. I have seen some of his work and it is quite nice.

Striping supplies? We have the Eastwood Co. about 20 minutes away. It's where I be going. One Shot paint and Mack brushes seem to work about the best. I would start by practicing on paper and going from there. Paper will let you know immediately if your paint is too thin or too thick. Then I would go with some plain sheet metal, then primed and then finish painted. IMO, finish painted metal is the easiest to work on when it comes to a medium of the metallic type.

I used to dabble in art when I was in school. Afterwards I guess I was just to busy becoming a musician. Although I liked to draw and I enjoyed oil paints, I could never figure out water color. It amazes me to see some of this work.
But, I have aquestion. Every car I see drawn is either a coupe, roadster or sedan. Why oh why doesn't anyone draw a tub? So the challenge is out. Let's see what you can do with this!

I'll second what Cherryblossom said about Ray. I've only met him this past year and I think he is one fasinating person. His art is but one of the components of his character. I sure enjoy just sitting and talking with him, he is a treasure of experience and information. I don't know what subject he can't talk about, maybe if I get more opportunity I'll find a something he can't relate to.
