Someone on the board said they were there this summer and that he was still open. I was there a couple weeks ago and was met with the traditional "Closed. NO looking around!" sign. Maybe he's only open on weekends now? It was like this last spring, too. Too much cool junk in that yard to let it stay closed.
Levis Classic- it's in Vestaburg, about five or ten minutes north of M46 on Crystal Road. Central part of the state, only about a half hour from CMU.

CMU's doing great, Rick, thanks for asking. I've never heard of Mancellona or Belair, lol, so I guess I haven't been to the yard. I always want to check new ones out. Is it a long way from Mt. Pleasant? You're right about Irv, he always looks pretty rough.
I'm waiting for the Midland/Bay City/Caro crew to chime in here, they always seem to know things about Hilliards that I don't.

Swaneys yard in Bellair is great. He is having troubles with the township so is now VERY careful who he sells to. I have bought lots of stuff there in the past. What kind of stuff does the yard near Mt. Pleasant have?

Irv is in tough shape..he always has been a hard one to know..if he likes you he will give you the run of the place and if he don't he won;t give you the time of day...got lots of junk but in the thirty years I have lived in the community I never got him to sell me anything, he's still got a 50 chevy I tryed to buy in 1972 settiin in the yard...not worth anything now, it run when i wanted to buy it...not bad mouthing him, just hard to do business with....sure does have the junk though and a lot of it is just that JUNK

Hey Cheese, what about that place right on 20 just East of Mt. P.? Sits up on a hill, I think near the casino rd.
I heard years ago that they had a lot of '50s/'60s stuff but I think they got bought a few years ago.

You're talking about that "Mostly MOPARTS" (sic) place? I haven't tried it, all the late model junk out front makes it look none-too-exciting, but maybe I'll have to check it out. Probably the 1st of November - think they'll be open?

I asked this before, but does anyone know if Joes in Spring Lake still has old stuff? We used to drive out there in High School. Lots of old stuff back then (10 years ago).

Cheese, no, not them. There's a place closer to Mt. P., sits up on a hill on the North side. I think they got a bunch of hubcaps out front. Has a fence all around it.

Rocket, yeah, they've still got old stuff in the back (front looks like they bulldozed it under!) but I wonder about their pricing. I went there just to poke around once and found a badly corroded 21-stud, pump-in-head flathead head (just one) in a school bus and thought "Gee, this would be a neat wallhangar!" I hauled it up to the office and they said "$45." After I picked my jaw up off the floor I asked them where to put it... since I wasn't gonna buy it! That piece of crap will sit on that office floor until the end of time because it's no good except for decoration and there's nobody that'll pay those prices for wall hangars!

I wish I was better with the names of roads, I'd direct ya to the old guy I used to visit up near Barryton. It's one of those "I know how to get there, but I couldn't tell ya the roads involved" things I'm so famous for!
Anyhow, I think if you head down 66 and turn east onto the road with all the school busses across from the new high school, then drive to the first dirt road and turn right, then drive maybe a 1/4 mile, you'll see it on your left...but don't quote me! It's been two or three years and I can't recall, but I could drive right to it if I were up there!
He's an old guy with quite a few cars and parts...sells cheap, too!

I used to love our annual trip to Joes too. The last time I was there, a buddy of mine bought every 46-48 Ford gas door he found. Don't know why. There was also a bulletnose stude in a puddle that noone could get to, I think the puddle was like an acre! I asked about a 49 Plymouth business coupe on top of a bus, and it wasn't for sale. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was there this summer. The closed sign was up then but we went and talked to him and he said that was just for his nosey neighbors. It started to rain really hard so we didn't get to see everything but there were some good parts cars.

Geeze, last time I knocked on the door he didn't answer. I'll really persist this time.
