I picked this original 60's soapbox derby car up a couple of years ago and have been thinking of turning her into a soap rod! Not sure of the paint scheme flames or flat black or ?????? Lets hear your ideas!

What's wrong with the nice blue? loose the crap lightening bolt graphic, add a round white patch for each of the number clusters, and add some pinstriping.....
Flat black? you can't be serious.....
Cheers,

Let me get this straight. You've got an original '60 SD car with original paint and graphics and you want to paint it flat black or some shit. Sorry, but you should have your fucking head examined.

Took the word out of my mouth. Leave that poor car alone and find a stakeboard to mess with...

The only thing you should do with that is put your kid in it and send them down a hill...
You'd be crazy to mess with it. No matter what you did to it, it wouldn't be as cool as what whoever built it did with it when they built it.
Build one yourself and paint the new one, but leave that old one alone.
Just give it to me and call it good http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DON'T TOUCH IT!
That thing is awsome as is!
Here's a thought. Take careful measurements, build a buck outta wood or foam, and make some of those outta fiberglass.
Pop them out till you're silly with them and paint them all manner of colors and schemes.
Could be neat little business.

I guess you know what MOST of us think by now, of what you should do with it.
I agree leave it alone.

One more... You're crazy to change anything!

Hang that thing on the wall and call it finished.
You'd have to be a complete moron to change it.
Maybe we all misunderstood your question. If you are going to build a hot rod version of it, say by building a bellytanker rod or a t-modified, that's one thing, but do not mangle this survivor. You'll only ruin it and earn a bad reputation.
Flat black with flames? Is this a joke?

Resist the urge!
Leave it... it's great like it is...
Someone put their heart into it.

Thanks for the input. My wife says to leave it aone as well. Althought the idea of making it a Pieson clone is Inviting.

If you really want to, why don't you find a beat up one to chop up.
...wait, I'm sounding like a restorer! ewwww! pth! pth! pth!
It's yours, do what you want (Although I kinda dig it the way it is.)

The only thing I'd do is re-do the numbers, they kill it for me. Maybe a round white circle so you can cover the old and do some nice, era correct numbers (keeping the same # of course.) Then call it done.
When I first saw the picture and hadn't read your proposal, I thought you were going to paint a T, or A modified to match that super cool Soapbox Derby car.
Somebody carefully preserved and stored that car for 40 years so it would be the way it is today. A memory of an era.
Please don't FUCK it up. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Its like back to the future- dont fuck with http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif history.......
By the way,
I don't think complete running original or restored to original old cars should be parted out for hotrods either.
There's so little of an original that ends up in the hotrod that it might as well have started with a collection of parts in the first place.
Only cut up the ordinary and the already wasted.
(Gee... do you think we convinced him yet?)
