Needed a new battery for the Humpy, and managed to find a nice clean all black one with yellow caps, that sort of match the yellow engine.
Figured it needed a lift so added some green an' yeller lines. Think I'll do the sides before it gets installed, Whaddayareckon?

The other thing aside from the toolbox in the pic, is my take on a storage box for striping brushes.
Made from pine, and notched in two sides so the lift out 'brush bracket' doesn't move around. The clips that hold the brushes are from the local electrical store and originally meant for keeping power leads (cords) neat around the house. They attach with double sided tape and clamp the brush handles nice and tight.

The magazine cover got lines coz everytime I finish a 'job' it's there and since there's paint in the brush and I hate to waste it.... well over a few weekends it just got striped.
Dunno what prompted me to take the picture, but when it came out of the camera, I thought,, "now that's not really a bad photo." So here it is for you to confirm what Mrs carps says. She reckons I'm nuts. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well it's official, my O.C.D. has kicked in at full throttle. I have 16 original masters now and not a single mold made. I guess that's next months project. Here are some new "future" knobs. The first one might not be real practical but I couldn't resist.

...and finally, we think this one turned out really nice and the plan, with Ryan's approval, is to offer a few of these up for HAMB auction. It's loosely patterned after a hubcap and all hand made- no machines involved.

Dubie, these masters are sculpted out of clay and baked in the oven. Re-usable molds will be poured using silicone rubber. The final pieces will be resin/plastic that can be painted. I think I've figured out step one of the process, hope there aren't too many snags in steps two and three.
This is fun stuff!

10-29-2004, 11:20 AM
Nice Stuff Cougar,
Are you using Sculpey? If so, how long do you need to let it set up to machine or do you force bake it with the oven?
I really dig your stuff and was always interested in sculpting with that stuff. I could join my 4 yr old daughter in f-in up the carpets in the house.

Mike, I've used plain white Sculpey and some Sculpey Premo so far. Baked in a regular oven by their instructions- doesn't take long. I haven't tried any "machining", don't want to lose the hand made character. That would probably work better with the resin casts anyway. It WILL sand and a fine rasp works great. So far I haven't ruined any carpet but it does look like I've taken up whittlin'.

Cougardan,
The hubcap HAMB idea is aces....I can't believe noone else ever thought of that. And to turn that idea into a shifter knob....I think we found a winner. It's just too bad you couldn't chrome that thing. No worries, I'd "settle" for one painted black with red/white striping. I could picture that in Ryan's '38 easily. Fuckin' cool man.
And Carps,
I reckon she's right......

Thanx for the encouragement, but next to this stuff, my stuff is pretty ordinary.
This weekend is KOA John's picnic and we kicked it off as usual last night with the Friday evening BBQ and benchracing session. One of the guys ggot game and let me cut loose on his car. Pics soon. I have another one lined up for this arvo, so we'll see what happes.
Another of my plans is to have a huge panel hung in one of the rooms for anybody who wants to have a try, all they need is a brush and some paint. If it looks any good we'll auction it off and give the cash to the widow of one of our mates who succummed to cancer recently.
