What's to bash? Looks cool. Doesn't look like it needs much done.

was just kiddin.. since bashin is a art around here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif it really doesn't need much more than an update. it runs like raped-ape. and I'm suprised at how well it behaves at freeway speeds. frontend is going back up once the new springs get here, and thinking a color change since its been orange so long.
Holy &$*t!!!
That thing kicks ass!! i love it!
Bitchin ride man!!!!

thanks all! yeah, the thing torqes(sp?) so violently that the right side leaf is completely de-arched. so, the guy building me a new set is going to compansate.(he's an old gasser freak from way back) whole frontend should rise about 1 3/4-2in. plus I found a set of old Anson traction bars to replace those yellow slapper bars.

That thing does kick ass! all I can say is that it needs a Moon tank stuffed in the grill. Put in some 110 Av. gas and and a tank switch, and you're ready to go!

I like the orange and the moon tank idea. "Grumpy" in gold leaf down each rear fender would set it off too. I love the rear wheel studs.

Only those of us with some grey hair will appreciate how authentic and bitch'n your ride is. Exactly the way I remember the bad actor cars of the late 60's. Very, very cool.

Nice find. I'd be tempted to leave it be, it's got the right look.

The only thing i would suggest is letting my uncle make a trip from Orrville to snag that beauty for me.
I love the orange color. That is cool that it does well at highway speeds

well, thanks for all the nice replys. It actually has a moon tank, mounted in the trunk, plumbed for Cam2 hooked to a toggle. I'm looking for a set of fenderwell headers. trying to grab up a set of Anson traction bars I found to replace the slappers, and looking for a nice vintage Sun or SW tach for the dash!

I think it would detract from it if you changed the interior or paint... the patina is great and something you can't fake no matter how good you are... do you think you could find someone to re-do the front end and make it match?
Also, the addition of a cross ram and some M/T valve covers would go a long way to making it look "right"... ditch the red spark plug wires and red hoses and you're THERE!
I also like the front rims... if you want to sell them, send me a PM... I've been looking for a pair of 15x3.5" SS rims for a while now... what do the Ansens look like? Will you leave them miss-matched?
Sam.

yeah, the red wires and hoses are going. and I'm looking for different valvecovers. I'm leaving the rims as-is(I like'em)and the anson traction bars are hard to explain, I found 1 set for sale, so we'll see where that goes. as for the paint, I was told its an old HD color(candy orange tangerine)Maybe someone with knowledge about old HD colors can pipe in. and you'd be shocked at how extremely solid this car is. it's crazy solid and straight. plus I'm not sure wide white cheater slicks will look right. may just replace all with fresh blackwalls.

Yeah keep the black wall slicks. God I get goose bumps just lookin at the car! Lucky..
This may be a dumb question but with a fuel tank switch does that mean you switch back and fourth between tanks at the flick of a switch? God fender wall headers will make that car tough!
Are you goin to gut the interior and make it race-ready or keep it comfy?
Grumpy
10-23-2003, 11:12 PM
it's staying comfy inside. it'll be driven constantly when its nice out. besides, my wife and kids go along with me most of the time. I can't decide whether to put old styled cheater slicks on or go with something like a M/T ET street, or M&H racemaster. thoughts?? I posted some wanted items in the classifieds. my new front leaf springs should be coming soon, so the front of the car will rise 1 3/4-2in. once they're installed. oh, and the switch only opens the line from the little tank so both fuels flow together.
The coolest 53-54 on the HAMB!!!! ALmost makes me want to put a straight axle under my new 54 wagon!

Damn!! I'm blushing http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif but, thanks. I was real lucky to get it. I know I didn't build it, but it's a real surviver of sorts. I'm just going to finess it alittle. no real major changes. it's a riot to drive, scares my wife to death. I'd love to make the HAMB drags, but it may be outta my reach. I'm already prepping for The Blue Suede Cruise(3day show at Norwalk raceway in Ohio)and we'll be at GG's columbus. I can't do too many long weekends.

Nice ride! you'll have a ton of fun and a thousand thumbs up's I'm sure. Reminds me of my late "Orange Crush" I sold in Aug. of this year. I had a 454/400 with Strange axles and 590 gears. Turned a 10:50 (best time)
But be fore warned. If you ever get ready to sell it, it's hard. Unless you find someone that is into it (gasser) they don't want it.
Congrats! On one BADASS car!
I'll check tomorrow. I think I still have a old Sun Tach in my goodie box.
