View Full Version : Movie car found.. The Flamingo kid and a bronx tale

10-22-2003, 06:55 PM
Ok ...It's not the Milner coupe but it's a pretty cool car. It's a 1960 T Bird bought by the singer or writer of the 1959 song "Gloria". The guy that has the car didn't know off hand the guys name. Who was it? The car was bought with the money made from the song. The car was later used in the movies "the Flamingo Kid" and "a Bronx Tale". I haven't seen (or heard of) these movies. Have any of you guys seen them and do you remember the car? The car was originally aplatinum color. Yes the car is for sale ( sorry for the spam) but I think it's cool if the car played agood role in the movie.

All I can remember is The Caddilacs sang a song called "Gloria" in 1954. Not sure if it's the same song you're thinking of, though.

Hey,

A Bronx Tale is a great DeNiro flick.

I thought the only "Gloria" song was the one done by Chicagoland's own Shadows of Night ? You know about '65 0r '66. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Gloria was done buy a number of various artists. I'll check my do-wop collection when I get a chance. In Bronx Tale a guy is sitting in a 'Bird when another guy beats the w/s in with a ball bat(don't worry, he pays dearly)...good movie, I recommend it.

Bronx tail & Kid where both great movies!! Flamigo kidwas set in a beach club in LI & there was alot of scenes with valet parking s it could have been in any of them.
Bronx tale also was shot "outside" so it too could ahve been used anywhere.

Wasn't the group called Them?

Like to tell you 'bout my baby, you know she comes around,
Just 'bout five feet four a-from her head to the ground.
You know she comes around here just about midnight,
She make me feel so good, Lord, she make me feel all right.
And her name is G-L-O-R-I,

G-L-O-R-I-A GLORIA
G-L-O-R-I-A GLORIA
I'm gonna shout it all night GLORIA
I'm gonna shout it every day, GLORIA
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

gloria by van morrison & the band "them"

From RollingStone.com

[ QUOTE ]
Born in Ireland in 1945, Morrison's musician parents schooled him well in jazz and blues. After touring with R&B band the Monarchs as a jazz saxophonist, Morrison founded the band Them, whose "Gloria" became an oft-covered rock 'n' roll classic. Dissatisfied with the corporate aspects of the music world, Morrison disbanded Them and returned to Ireland.

this "gloria" was released about '65, so i don't know if it fits the time line

found some more info:
Written by Van Morrison
Originally performed by The Shadows of Knight, a garage rock band from Chicago
Their version reached #10 on the Top 40 charts in 1966
Also recorded by the band Them featuring Van Morrison himself, but that version never cracked the Top 40 charts

A few years ago at a vacation house some friends wives were watching Saturday Night Fever, and one of my friends from Long Island looked over at the screen and said "See that car, it was my cousin's car". I said what car, and he said the 63 or 64 Chevy (I can't remember the exact year) that one of Travolta's pals in the movie "owned" and the car he borrowed to help the dancer move.

He said his cousin lived near where they did the New York (Bayshore?) location filming, and some of the movie location scouts spotted his car and asked if they could rent it for some scenes in the movie. As they offered him some decent dough, he said sure. They used if for about a week and gave it back to him with a nice check. He then continued to drive the car and it got rusty (that's what happens when you drive an old car year round here in the road salt belt) and he eventually junked it or sold it (my friend couldn't remember). His cousin never knew the movie would be a big hit and that he might have been able to cash in on his worn out shitbox chevy. Considering how damn big that horrible disco soundtrack still is on hot hits/jammin/classic dance radio stations (one of which the gym I go to often plays, nearly driving me insane as I seem to hear half the Saturday Night Fever songs almost every time I go to the gym), he probably could have made some decent money sending his "Saturday Night Fever" car on the car show/state fair circuit. (I hate the music from that movie with a passion)

A Bronx Tale...one of my fave movies! Joe Pesci's character got out of a black Squarebird at the beginning
of the movie, when he killed the guy in front of the apartment building...it was also parked in the background
alot. Don't remember a Squarebird in Flamingo Kid...although there is one in the funeral procession at the
end of "La Bamba"...(just a useless bit of trivia) haha

Samantha, not trying to be a dick, but Pesci wasn't in Bronx Tale.

That was Chaz Palminteri.

I always wanted one of those Pink flamingo scooters like the dude drove in the Flamingo Kid. Now that would be a score! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Care to make a wager Repoguy? Chazz Palminteri played Sonny...Joe Pesci played Carmine. Carmine talks to "C" at Sonny's
funeral at the end.

THEM released Gloria in '65. For some reason the watered down Shadows of the Night version became a hit in '66.

Nappy.. He's askin $6,000. He might even take that Lincoln in trade. Sue would love to have it but I don't have the money now. He's askin $4,000 for the wagon in my other post.
I'll have to find out who the guy was that had it. Doesn't seem like the movie history is that great. I do remember the Flamingo Kid but don't remember the car.

I thought you were confusing one for the other, but now that I think about it - you're right, Pesci was in it.

I stand corrected.

And yes, it was a great movie.
