So I am just about to finish up the drivetrain for my '54 chevy moredoor and I start to have doubts. I knew it was a 4dr and all when I started and it didn't bother me, but now I have picked up a '49 ford tudor deluxe. Now I got about half my friends saying finish the chevy and the others saying start of the ford. Here's the problem I have almost everything I need, have put in countless hours sanding and wrenching on the chevy (I don't have compressed air so you can imagine), the ford would be starting all over again. Plus I dunno how easy it is to dump a 327 into a '49, guess I'll ahve to ask bass.
Here's what I got:

the chevy now has all the front sheetmetal on, rebuilt master cylinder, '55 rear end installed etc...
here's the ford back to the drawing board so to speak:

Finish the Chevy...start on the '49 when it's done...and then sell the Chevy to finance the '49...there's always someone out there that will buy a completely done car...
It's far easier to finish a 70% completed car than start on a 100% undone car...besides, when the Chevy is done, you mite like it so much, you'll keep it too!
Good luck,

I wish I had that kind of dilemma!
Finish the Chevy and drive and have fun with it. Make all the shows ya want and post it here. While yer driving it and amking shows and cruizing, being part of the scene, start on the Ford and build it like ya want.
2 cents worth. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If you dont finish that chevy first, i will drive down to texas and kick your ass.
Are you tellin the HAMB that you would throw away all your hard work, and be a quitter?
Get your ass out there and finish your car.
Invite those "friends" of yours over and have a finishing party or two.
I think you have your answer, ,, you posted on the HAMB, and by the way i read your post, you already know what you have to do.... finish your chevy.

I would have to agree with the consensus you have here already . finish the chevy , it is closer to being done , then sell it instantly to start the ford . it is a no brainer .
Just what do you want to do?
That is what you should do.
It seems on the surface that the Chevy would be the route to go, since you have already expended money and time.
But, you have to be the one to decide just what you really want.
When that is done, go for it!

1 car finished is worth more than 2 cars half finished.Get some of your capable "friends" to help finish the Chevy.

I agree with everyone. Finish the Chevy first, but, if you can afford to keep it and drive it while doing inexpensive work on the Ford you won't be in such a hurry. Plus, you'll not only get some seat time but a good way to show it off to prospective buyers. "And look, it even runs!"

I concurr (have been waiting to use that word): Finish the Chevy and enjoy it as a driver and event cruiser while you break new ground on the Ford. Beats going to the parts shop on foot, which is what I'm doing 'til my F-100's painted, and the motor's rebuilt.
Most of all: have fun, enjoy the options you have.
I can tell you from experience that having unfinished projects around, and your on something else is lame.Finnish the Chev. and do with it what you want, then start the Ford. NO one wants to pay anything for half done projects.I've got three.--TV http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Finish it, who cares how many doors it has.
My experience is if you don't finish what you started, you'll ask yourself "What if...?"
if it don't make ya dirty it aint yours http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Finish the Chevy and if you can pull it off drive it until the Ford is ready for the road. Or until the ford is to a point where you need to pedal the chevy to get the coin to complete the ford. A running/proven car is worth more that a unfinish car. plus you can enjoy your hard work for a while until it is absolutely nessicary to send it down the road. Just my opinion, but it also appears to be the concensus.

If you've got almost everything you need, I say finish it. I'd say finish it anyways though cause I want to see pics when you're done, as I've got a '53 4 door. One way to look at it would be this... You've got the Ford until you want to sell it, so really, it's in no rush to be done.

lol our fords could be twins http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
in the last two weeks ive swaped the small block/trani/rearin and its pretty simple, no real fitment problems other then the floor/trani cover.
though you do need to watch your steering and exct
but yeah finish the chevy and cruise it when your working on the ford.
you know how shity you feel when you go cruise and are stuck in your beater or in somebody elses bad ass ride?
just my 2 cents

I've been there more than once. I never regretted finishing the current project before starting the next. The one time I quit the first to start the second still nags me with "WTF was I thinking?".
You asked our opinions -- looks like it's near unanimous.
