Since Norwell dubbed this the "Friday Artshow"...

Here is what we have planned here, to let the artists show new work as well as favorite works of the artists themselves. All new artwork is VERY welcome. All artwork is to remain H.A.M.B. friendly material as in past art shows. So much of what will be shown you will have seen before but remember these are some of the individual artists favorites.

We ask for those who are replying to leave the images out of your quotes. All comments as usual are welcome. I hope all will enjoy the show.

Cool stuff Farmer.

Here's one from a while back. It's a line drawing scan ned into Photoshop and then colored. the second image below it was well received and was drawn in Photoshop in about 20-30 minutes. The two are a set and, therefore, are connected (somewhat.)

When I first heard drag racing engines it was like a clarion call. My angry youth seemed to be unified with the radical cam profiles of these dangerous & edgy engines.
At that first meet there were floppers somewhat similair in style to this quick sketch. This was when floppers still had variety in engine choice.

P.s; Dumb question- How to reply without repeating images. Is it quote or quick reply ? Please advise.

P.P.S - Jerry Reed-. I'd like to see your paint on this Vette. Perfect.

Finally get to post these. They were finished a couple weeks ago but the receiving constituents also surf the H.A.M.B. I painted these up for a friend who gave one to his brother (Greg) and the other to his father for Christmas. The Rock Farm is a redo of the one I did on the truck, with more detail on the pin-up. Fake rust and fake screws. Too much detail to show. He called yesterday to tell me he loved it.

I guess i will show the wifes end of year project with our work from 2008.
She decided it was about time we had our own pics hanging on the wall so she took the work from the booth,,,,,,,,,,
http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/426680744_tyFHD-L.jpg

and made our home gallery with it

I think what made 2008 fun for us was the people we got to meet, and moving to Texas and making a ton of new friends............here are a couple of pics though from 2008

The wife bought the van for me in April in S.C.......
http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/316728205_SjL9v-L.jpg

We test drove it seven miles then drove it home the 400 to florida, and the next week drove it to leesburg bikefest. A few weeks later we drove it to MyrtleBeach to give it to my painter Kevin at Razor Graphics in Fredericksburg V.A.

They then brought it to me at Heavy Rebel Weekend in Winston Salem for its debut show where it was voted best truck by the guys from the saints car club, and the wife finished third in the Bananna pudding eating contest.

http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/375204055_75Rw9-L.jpg

http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/374925114_Kv5Lw-L.jpg

We then drove it home from North Carolina, and then a couple of weeks later I drove it back to SouthCarolina to go to another show, and get the interior redone. Then August 8th i got married the next morning I rode back to S.C to pick up the van from the interior shop and drive it back home to Florida. Three days later we loaded all our belongings in the van and the wifes scion and moved to Houston T.X(Just in time for Hurrican Ike)

We attended 38 shows in 2008, but Texas shows where a blast we got to meet Doc,Kirk, and lowcab at the lonestar nats, and had a blast at Pistons and paint where a true artist....................

I have a friend, Kray Suddeth, that creates skateboards, shirts and a boat load of art. He has a few "companies" including "XXX Skateboards." I recently bought another skateboard from him and when he sent it, he included a few "bonus" pieces. This is an inked piece.....

Awesome show, amazing work, this site blows me away:)

My year in review is basically the gallery on my website www.browndogwelding.com. I started it this spring, and 99% of the content is stuff I've done since then.

The pics aren't so sweet, but here is the Loach(as it was called) helicopter I made for my father in law for christmas. He flew them in 'nam.

My fave of the year was real hard to pick, but in the end, I had to choose the awesome work done by Tim 'Surfmonkey' Odell for the Scarlett Fever show this past March, its already been posted above by Jeff Norwell, so I won't repost it.

I spent some time this year playing with various photo modification programs, and the following are a couple of my personal favorites.

Hey all, hope your Christmas was as good as mine. Nothin' better than seeing the looks on the kids' faces when they open gifts.

I'm new here so I've only seen a couple months of shows. I'm so impressed with all the talent here, it never ceases to amaze me every week. I've always been a little more on the muscle and pro touring side of things and you guys have helped me see more of the other side. You've all been an inspiration to me. I think it's cool too to not 0only see art like I see on a couple other forums I'm a member of, but photos and sculpture, pinstriping, it's all awesome stuff. Hard to pick favorites, there are so many.

Here's one I wrapped up christmas eve, an illustrator drawing for a local body shop owner. He's building this for he and his dad and wanted a rendering as a Christmas present for his dad. The dad used to drag race a 59 Elky back when the son was little and family commitments forced the sale of it. This ones getting a cross rammed 409, 5-speed, and mild suspension upgrades. Black and charcoal 2-tone paint with polished torque thrusts.

Happy safe holidays everyone!

I hope you all have a great holiday season and I'm looking forward to each Friday in the new year to see what new things you guys come up with.
Here are a few of my own personal favorites. It's been a while since I've done something HAMB friendly but I think it's time to get started on some fresh material in the new year.

Thanks to everyone for all the great inspiration on here. Happy new year to all.

I think I finished this one in '08...?

Here's how it started (Surf Monkey inspired me to go back to good ol' pencil & paper - thanks Munky):

http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=492&pictureid=3486

And here is how it ended after cleaning it from being vandalized at work.

Someone I work with wrote the word Toyota on the rear deck - they pressed so hard I nearly had to scrap 3 months of work...

And here is a piece that was inspired by looking at Weezner's stuff...

Nice choices Jeff and Monkey. I'd be here all day if I posted my favorites of individual artists and I'd certainly leave out others more than deserving of recognition...

Please post works from your own studio that are among your personal bests and favorites. LowCab' intent isn't about patting ourselves on the back.

I'm still humbled by the response to this one and yield my appreciation to Zombie, and Norwell for pushing me to higher and higher levels with their constant bar setting entries time after time.

They then brought it to me at Heavy Rebel Weekend in Winston Salem for its debut show where it was voted best truck by the guys from the saints car club, and the wife finished third in the Bananna pudding eating contest.

http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/374925114_Kv5Lw-L.jpg

We then drove it home from North Carolina, and then a couple of weeks later I drove it back to SouthCarolina to go to another show, and get the interior redone. Then August 8th i got married the next morning I rode back to S.C to pick up the van from the interior shop and drive it back home to Florida. Three days later we loaded all our belongings in the van and the wifes scion and moved to Houston T.X(Just in time for Hurrican Ike)

http://photochicken.smugmug.com/photos/360587177_6daze-L.jpg

We attended 38 shows in 2008, but Texas shows where a blast we got to meet Doc,Kirk, and lowcab at the lonestar nats, and had a blast at Pistons and paint where a true artist....................

Man - I'm having really bad luck with posting pictures today. I've been hammering away trying to get my favs from different HAMB artists for more than an hour.

I have them now - a few of these were inspiring to me for different reasons.

Weez's little roadster inspired my coupe seen above.
Munky inspired the vert posted above (not based one this pic - but how can I choose just one?)...
MCotie inspires me to commit suicide because I am NOT worthy. I picked one of his chopper painting just to make it HAMB worthy...I like all of his other stuff.
Rube makes me want to grab a paintbrush even though I haven't really done much of that.
Zombie makes me want to think outside the box with colors and technique.
RobinB reminds me how I used to draw and wish I still did...

nice work everyone. Here is my favorite piece of the year, the quality of the finished product isnt my best, but its the concept of the idea which I like so much about it. A 33-34 ford ute, with a dual quad, dual supercharged 312 y-block. One of you aussies out there has to build this.

Its impossible to pick one piece of art from all you extremely talented folks out there, I could post anything from norwell, Cab, Lowcab, ruben duran, detroit dinosaur, Zombie, surfmonkey, franco, toddj, jcruz......i could keep going but, if I had a gun to my head...my favorite piece this year goes to flyingpolock and his R&C desoto piece

Spoggie

YnottaYblock- I reckon the late Lew Bandt would be giggling in his grave. He designed the '33 ute. He owned and drove the prototype and died in it as a result of a collision- he was a ripe old age , i'm guessing this was in the nineties. He was a very talented designer. The brief was a light truck that could also be used for church and town visits.
The Y- block is the good choice- with aussie speed parts it was by far the most popular overhead here until the seventies - we didn't get the mouse 'till '60 and by then Chevs were very expensive and sold in few numbers. Falcons got the 289 in '67, Holdens got the 307 & 327 in '68 and that was the beginning of the end of the 272 & 292's dominance on the street.

LeftyLucy's grand Charcoal lakebed piece is a favourite of many.
Before the coupe ute there were the open utes. I'd hazard a guess that Mr. Bandt was probably involved in the design work.
I rendered this type 304 in October. As you can see it's still in 'primer'.
I've returned to drawing this year largely through the inspiration of these shows.

To all you FAST guys - thank you for thanking me.....

?!?!!

...anyway, I just had some dumn luck on a half assed idea - you guys make the place rock, not me.

I can't wait to see some new lessons from you great artists and I plan on doing a step by step on some of my own work...that is if I ever get back to doing car related stuff. (I have been on a still life kick for a while - apples to be exact.) I know - how ghey, but what can I say. Sometimes I just feel like a fruit. :)

This show has been SICK. I love seeing what others dig up.

I wish I had more time to search for art. Hell I spent wayyy too much time gawking at MCotie's web site....

See you next week for the first show of 2009. (man, does this machine EVER stop ?!?!?)

Well, i've never shown off any of my art, especially on the HAMB, and i wasn't big into drawing or ink, but i took an art class at school and we had to do a journal, contrast a story with a balance, so i did a car cycle of a t bucket going through the transformation during day and night. also did some beer can drawings. i've been more into photo than art but still. one project was a blurred motion. and then in my own time i began pounding out a steel face for no reason really.
i really hope to begin to refine my stuff next year.

Hey Eye Bone dig your drawings.
Your signature's cool too.

I listened to 4 or 5 Tom Waits early albums the other night and on one album ( may be Blue Valentine ) a HAMB- friendly car and situation was present in every sweet song.
Each album had a cool car reference. Great stuff.
Pacheco's 3w deuce lowboy is sweet.
A big HOORAY ! to everyone who posted in 2008. Good onyas !

I don't know how I'm supposed to pick my favorites. It would just take too damn long trying to choose and find them all. I guess I'll just list my favorite artists and why. But to those who weren't listed don't fret. I love all the artists ans sick shit everyone does week in and week out.

Ubermustang, ewt2 just for their sick realism and detail.

Sonny Depalma- colorful, detailed rat fink paintings.

Jeff Norwell, Von Franco-colorful and cartoon-like.

Janne, Zombie, Typikal-fantastic colored pencil renderings.

Pontiacres Ranch-someday I'll get an embroidered jacket by you.

Weez- for the awesome 50's-60's looking painting you do.

Well' there's just been too much brilliant work out there for me to remember individual pieces but I'll give a mention to some of my favorite artists who I,ve discovered on the HAMB:-
ewt2 - Exquisite drawings.
ToddJ - Nice style.
Pacheco - I always love your pictures. Minimalist but perfect in detail.
GaryC - always full of fresh ideas.
DutchCourage - Nice variation on classic themes.
I,ve probably missed some people who deserve a shout, sorry!
See you all in 2009. :)

Norwell that Bill Wrath/Stu Hillborn Speadster peice is the best thing I've ever seen you do… and that's sayin' allot cause I've seen you do some heavy stuff!

I've had allot of fun this year viewing all this crazy stuff ozing from the tire smoke of your creative brains… and my list folks who have caught my eye is just too long for the time I have today. But it's an honest statement for me to make that each and every one of you who have posted something this year did at least one peice that blew me away! And I'm honored to be a part of this… Now get back to work!!? LOL

Cool !!! PM us and let us know of your next trip.

We come down to the Roundup every year, since you are now in TX, I assume you go? Perhaps we'll see you there.

Thanx DeVille Gal, I apprecaite it...and Unkl Ian...yep, definite Bell influence, so much so that I did a lot of art under the pseudonym "Swell"...look at each Bell piece carefully...it may be a "Swell" piece of art...

Well, this is gonna sound like a bit of a copout but I mean this with all sincerity...I have no favorite artist here. I am in awe of all of you for many different reasons, and you all inspire me and shame me and excite me and humble me and entertain me more than mere words can describe. And for this I am truly grateful.

Thank you very much for sharing your creativity and extraordinary abilities with the world, and I wish you all much continued success in the years to come!

Here's my contribution this week...it's an art trade I did for my buddy Johan in the Netherlands. One of his painted 1-shot cans with one of my monster arms comin out of it.
I'm overlly impressed with the abundance of talent on here! Great work form everyone!
And on a personal note, I must thank my very good buddy Jeff Norwell for introducing me to this board, and gettin me onto the Friday Art Show!

Cheers all,
Frogger
