Here's a post I just read on another message board. The car customization crowd lost one of its own, and highly esteemed pioneers this morning. Neil Emory (who is my grandpa) passed away after a long struggle with alzhiemer's. Neil was one of the original body customizers, he had his own shop, Valley Kustoms which some of you guys might remember, he was also the first person to be introduced to the hotrod hall of fame.

monumental loss!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif A salute to one of the absolute all time masters. I never met Neil or Clayton personally but they had a huge effect on my life. Valley Custom had a very distinct style all their own. Their customs almost had a european influence that almost made me consider them coach builders instead of custom builders but the cars were just too cool to put them into that category. Ray Vegas 38 ford convert was my all time favorite Valley car.It along with Ronn Dunns sectioned shoebox, are still around and as some of us have read and heard the Polynesian was rumored to be in a shop called The Red Laquer Room somewhere in Chicago around 20 years ago in its updated(late 50s)configuration. There is also that 40 merc phaeton that is alive and well out westThe fact that these cars made it through the dark ages of customs is a testament to the greatness of Valley Custom

Another sad day for the customizing world. Remember him well from my HS days in the 50s, always wished I could have cars like the ones he customized. After all these years I do, a full custom 50 Merc Tudor, still under construction but all the sheetmetal work is done.
Condolences for you and the family, Gods speed!!

I need to clear up a misunderstanding, Neil Emory wasn't related to me. Some of the replies, seem to think he was my grandfather, he wasn't. The first line in my original post says I read the news on another message board. I'm sorry for the mix up. I wasn't lucky enough to meet Neil, and I don't know is grandson. I'm just passing along the sad news. Dean
