Have you tried to drive this thing yet ? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

How about the float level? Will it run properly on this much of an angle ?

How far is the big trip ?

If it's close, try it and see what happens.
And keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge.

I think you are worrying too much. The motor will run fine a quart low. If you are REALLY concerned, add an extra half quart.

Steady pressure is no worry. Eyeball the gauge and run it.

only worry would be if it was a such an angle that part of the crank was submerged in oil http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

driveline phase or the angle of the u-joint at the transmission to the driveshaft and of the driveshaft u-joint to the rear axle pinion. Rear axle pinion angle is to be considered, also.
If, the engine mount angle is to severe, you may experience fuel starvation, at the carb, and oil starvation at the oil pump, under hard acceleration. Set a degree finder on top of the carb, not the air cleaner, front to back and you should get a relatively close reading of the angle of the engine in the chassis.

Won't the front sump empty out on a hard run? Do they have rear sumps and pickups available?

I just bought a 270 dodge Hemi that was run in a sand rail. must have had the same problem. had a wedge shaped carb adapter. like 1 inch rear to 1/4 inch front. I'll take a picture when I get to the shop this morning. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It should be ok but if it it still bothering you add some spacers between the transmission mounts.I am glad you have finally got to drive it!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

48-Hemi, I made one of them myself once, out of a Summit 1/2"carb spacer. Threw it in a borrowed lathe, four jaw chuck, tapped it to the angle I needed and skimmed about 3/16 off. Only on the one edge, as the other edge just cleaned up, giving me the necessary angle to get the carb level. The studs were a little out of 'true' after, but nothing worth worrying about. That was for this project, as the carb had to be level, and the stock manifold isn't.

I've got one that I whittled up in a mill many mango seasons ago for a hard launching FE - it's standard Holley & yours for postage if you think you need it.

VT - The slicks in the rain test is to prep you for when you get a "real" motor. When you get the same feeling on dry roads, you have a *real* motor. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I decided to throw caution to the wind and take a relatively untested car on a 200 mile round trip..... I'm glad I did.

It ran like a champ. I don't think I have anything to worry about. I still have some bugs to iron out of the suspension and all, but, I am very very pleased with the trip and the performance of the car.

Also on this trip, I got initiated into the "slicks + rain = uh-oh" club. First time out with them and oooooohhhhh it rains on me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif 30 mph for the last 50 miles of our return trip home. Only once did they get away from me....at a stoplight. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It was a good day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks everyone for your input. It really helped me make a good decision.

Yeah, let's see a pic with the front end settled. The angled carb adapter will really help if it is sputtering or acting bad during accel / decel. Glad to hear it's roaming the streets again!
