Tonight... i met up with fellow Hamb'r (A32FLATHEAD) at a local car gathering that happens every Thursday, chatted for awhile before he had to leave, then met up with a few other guys on Hamb, then one fella gave me a lead on a swap meet collector that just picked up an Offenhauser 3-Deuce intake manifold with rebuilt 2-jet Rochester carbs ( linkage all there and ready to mount right on) I had been searching for one for my '30 Ford coupe...the guy had it right in his motor home!

http://photo.starblvd.net/cabsfordcoupe/1-1-5.jpg

He wanted $1200 but i offered him $1000 and he sold it to me:)

Did i score, get an okay deal, or was i ripped off?

My buddy Larry, who i brought with me, thinks i got a fair deal, i'm going to have the manifold polished before i mount it...super stoked and i think it's going to add a nice touch to the motor and the look of the car:)

Is it an sbc? These setups are hot and prices are climbing but a grand for pieced together carbs that aren't even the 3 deuce specific units seems a tad high. If it had correct carbs from an original 3 deuce maybe.

Ya that's a fair price. We just sold a 348 Offy intake w/ 3 2's and linkage for 1200 Canadian.

It's true, nice intake setups are getting more and more expensive.

Here is one on Epay that is a 4/2 and it had a buy it now of $1200. But I don't think that it is a bolt and go.

I say thats a good deal Cab. I was after one for my 283 thats going into my modified, so I have been looking thru ebay and such. There is a guy who just does tri-power set-ups he has a web site - www.chevytripower.com (http://www.chevytripower.com)

For now I am going to run an Offy carb adapter to run 2-3 bolt carbs 97's or Holley 94's whatever I find 1st and for a fair price..

I got this 283 at the Hoosier swap meet as you see it stand and everything last spring for 800 bucks. The motor is .30 over and will go into the Lunar Lander/Back door buddy project with a set of double hump heads (instead of the 307 heads it had on it) and the Tri-Power and valve covers went onto the crate motor in the spacetruck. A good deal, yes, but I was not giving the motor any value at the time because it could have been total junk, and still may be, we'll find out.

The carbs seem to work OK, but I am going to rebuild them this winter because the front one is seeping a little bit.

have you seen this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&?ViewItem&item=2492915355

i was watching this auction ( e-mailed the guy twice for a reserve price, but no reply) actually the guy re-listed this item because it didn't sell the first time, it went out for about $375.

but...then i found the one i picked up last night, so it's all good now!
the guy with the website, are they selling the newer Offy's or the O.G. ones?

good luck on your quest:)

Great meeting you today Steve -- and I say you scored. There may be a cheaper one somewhere out there in East Bumfuck, but we don't mind paying a little extra to live here in the Golden State, eh? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It looks like a bolt-on -- and that's what you ought to do before polishing the manifold. IMHO it would look good "as is" on your coupe. As soon as you start in on adding the bling, where do you stop?

cab - you did alright. my philosophy is if i searched for the sweetest deals everytime i wanted something it would take too long to get the look desired. so, if you are able to buy something right in front of you...do it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

i got my yblock tripower brand new with rebuilt 94's for about $850, really i only paid $700 cause it was a trade.. thats without scoops.

if you add the air cleaners, thermostat housing, linkage and shipping.. you would be well over $1200. (you can make some of this stuff yourself).

so ya dun did guud brudda!

Hey man, I say thats a fair deal, esspesialy for a bolt on. Personaly I would run it as is. I had polished maifolds before and theye are a pain in the ass to maintain. Lots of little nooks and cranies to have to polish, Just to much of a headache for me, I like to spend my time drivin' not polishin'!
And yes, I know alot of people who have plated their carbs only to have them never be the same again.
But I guess thats to be expeted when your adding metal to anything, the tolerences are going to change http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

oh ya... I forgot to mention that my "Coupe" got called a "rat rod" about 3 or 4 times last night!
I guess if it's parked in between two Billet $60,000- $80,000 dollar rods... it must look like one to them:(

Hey... i thought i drove a "nostalgical" looking rod around:(

Cab, you could have picked it up for half that and a whole herd of the internet hot-rodders on this board would have told you that you paid to much. As complete as that setup is, I'd say you got a fair deal.

It won't take you long to figure out that there are guys on here who actually work on their cars (like what you're doing with the new intake) and then there are guys on here that just sit behind their computers and write about what they would do if they were actually out in the garage working on their cars.

Love your car, think the new intake and carbs will be a nice addition.

no tax here and air cleaners are 10-25.00 ea. shipping depends on how far from Portland you are. Sent one to signman in Eastern Canada for 80.00.
