Here is a bike I picked up earlier this fall and did not know too much about. It is a bike that was originally built in the early 30's for Sam Schwartz of FAO Schwartz fame. It was designed by the DP Snyder company, built by the DP Harris company (Rollfast and Peerless badges). The original bike was rough. Cleaned it up best I could and added a set of Felt Quick Brick White Walls.

Smooth Sledding
You'll see lots of '49 Mercs, some Fords, and a few Chevys
but nothing makes a low-riding sled like a '49 Buick.
I think that Candy Purple and Lime Green are of
sufficient impact for this toothy custom!
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

Janne- Kongrats on the R & C gig. That's a crafty piece to start with.
Here's a few day's worth of visual diarrohea courtesy your's truly. Top left is Australia's favourite gasser- the first Holden.
Don't forget to click on these thumbnails for a decent squizz..
Oh, and hey Joe- what a neat old push- bike- I keep going back to look at it- it's so trick, from the tyres to the head stem. Best thing for me is despite the details being so neat it's the overall beauty of the form which still shines through.
I've always dug the skid- kid ( bobber ) style- no bling, just a neat style you can ride. Cheap to run & get fit too..
Hello Gary- Purple & green go together well- as would we all as owners of '49 Buicks such as you have kindly herewith shown. Hesitate not good fellow to sail forth once again into the natural world of the insect- that green machine of a few weeks ago was groovy..

I posted this on another site... bit I thought I would share........
I collect this stuff.... originals and original print material.
I look at this type of work and it makes me sad,... sad for the fact that most or nearly all of the artistic mastery has been long lost.
There was an actual time when this type of visual would gather crowds and garner true excitement in the Auto industry.
Maybe if the big three would get there heads out of there asses.... they could see.
I highly doubt that and I think corporate gluttony and union obesity have killed that.
At any rate...... look at the elegance of how the public was shown a new upcoming vehicle.I belong to a blog where I receive important Illustration art from days gone by.
About 10 years ago I had the true extreme chance to work down the hall from to gentlemen who were giants in this field. It was a chance of a lifetime. No school could have given me what I learned from these 2 gentleman. There names were Will Davies and Tom McNeeley.
More on them later...
Imagine looking at illustrated images today..... say like a Sanford in a Ford,Chev or Mopar brochure...... instead of that glossed over dead crap they are still trying to hawk........
They might ACTUALLY garner some interest....... I know,I know..... there problems run way deeper than fine crafted imagery.... BUT........

Great stuff, thanks for sharing jeff. We have a bunch of original old auto ads that used to hang on our walls. I love the golden age of illustration. That was REAL craftsmanship.
Here's mine for the week. Not new art, just a new application of my art... on pillowcases.
Company called Hell's Blankets (http://www.hellsblankets.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=256) out of Australia licensed the design from me.

I was pretty busy this week getting the garage ready for winter but I had some time to do this. I bought Painter 10 about a month ago and got my tablet last weekend.
Its O/T but what the hell...
My Grandpa was in WWII in Japan and the Philippines from 1944-1946.He was with MacArthur's 41st Butchers. I have about 50 pictures from when he was in training camp to the atomic bomb going off.
I took two pictures and used Painter and water colored them to make my Grandpa in color and left evry thing else in black and white.

Hey Everybody! Wicked start to the show this week. Must've been all the turkey we devoured yesterday.
Gary C- That Buick is bitchin' man!
Dutch- Love both pics! Your stuff is mind boggling!
Janne- Congrats again on your R&C feature my friend. Excellent work!
A32flathead- Beautiful shots as always man. I'll get to that Merc yet, I promise!
Lockwood- Lookin good man. Way to add in those darker shades.
Blackbaron, Yblock, Britt8m, mindseye, all very cool
JEFF! Thanks for posting all of those beautiful ads. I have been a fan of those types of illustrations all of my life. It is truly sad that we will likely never see such amazing automotive advertising ever again. (love the 62 Impala ads). My mother in law's dad owned a small Chevy dealership and all the dealer ads, promo models, signage and such were all auctioned off and the old building torn down. Damned shame- of course this all happened years before I met my wife.
Anyways, here's a few from me. Hoping you all dig 'em.

Nice adverts Jeff! You reminded me that I had these in my files, waiting to get re-framed.
In the old days, GM Photographic used to post this kind of stuff all around the Tech Ctr to showcase Eng achievements over the years. They did a lot these for Styliing & Marketing too. Sadly, I think most got binned over the years.
I got 4 of these as they were demo'ing part of the Tech Ctr to build the new tower some years back. A guy was taking them to the dumpster, when I rescued them & hung them in my cube.

Del- you have GOT to colors those out. They're incredible.
Jen - Love those ornaments. I'd buy one.
The old car ads, especially the ones from GM, are also a particular favorite of mine. Boulevard Photographic by Jim Williams is a great book on the inside story of the switch from drawing to photos in the US automotive ad biz. Cruise O Matic by Yasutoshi Ikuta is a great collection of 50's auto ad art. Ads That Put America On Wheels by Dregni and Miller covers a bunch of years, both drawing and photo. Still looking for a book that really covers all of the sixties in depth, particularly the drawings.
Another great show everyone.

My very firstest Photoshop. Thanks to Zumo for doing a '53 for Dan a while back. I borrowed the quarter panel and the tires from two of them he did. I'm going to have to work to get better but I'm fairly happy with this one. Chopped, sectioned, lowered, pancaked, and treated to 54 Lee lenses and 54 headlight rings and fender line.
http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z198/Danimal_9395/Courts%2054%20Chevy%20Truck/5431002-1.gif
My second one. Court wants his truck to be a green and stock fender openings. Still sitting at 'stock' height from the picture I found on the web. Wheels and tires to change and ride height to drop.

BUT........
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q7/JEFFNORWELL/A1-1.jpg
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q7/JEFFNORWELL/A2.jpgG'day Jeff,
Bittersweet post. I don't even know what a new car brochure must look like. I guess I get enough through the press releases in the dailies.
You've posted some choice stuff here- the '62 G.P. & others similair are Fitzpatrick & Van Kaufman pieces. One of 'em did the backgrounds- the other did the car. Tag team !
I bet i can find plenty of detractors but I like a lot of modern car exterior design. It's pushin' out in various directions.Generally of the rest of the modern car I couldn't care less- too complex !

Merry Christmas..... from Mopar!

I'm wit'cha here, Jeff. I have a friend, Mike DiFazio, who used to do those for Chrysler. But I think that was back when illustrators weren't considered artists.
Like N.C. Wyeth and his contemporaries, the hoity-toity asswipes of the "so-called" art world spoke of all these fabulously talented people as though they were tainted, or just weren't 'good enough' to be called artists. They were "just" illustrators.
I had many of these brochures when they were new. I remember well and with great fondness, when the new cars had their debuts each September. There was great secrecy at the showrooms, with paper all over the windows so you couldn't see the new cars before their unveiling. It was an event much like a holiday season, with searchlights ablaze in the night skies lauding the arrivals!
Hell, each Fall, all through the '50s and much of the '60s, people used to get dressed up in their Sunday Best and take their families to the dealerships to see the new glitzy offerings. It was an amazing time. And these great renderings are all we have left to show for it.
It's way long overdue that these immensely gifted people get the recognition they're due. I'm proud of the fact that you've taken the initiative here, as well as other sites. It has to start somewhere. Good on ya!
