Anyone have pictures of customized Corvairs, even if they're terrible? I have a '63 I got free and I'm just curious if anything interesting, cool or just stupid has been done with them, other than the corv8 pro street thing.

I was in Paris a few years back at the Loud Mufflers car show and the girlfriend of one of the guys there had a wild gold metalflake corvair. It looked awesome. Sorry I don't have a pic, I only have it on video and don't yet have a capture card!! Maybe one of the european guys has a pic of this.

i saw one that was canary yellow, might have had some metallic in it, with 5 spoke chrome wheels. pretty sure they were torque thrust IIs, not sure, it was moving. i think it was around a 66. i always thought they looked weird, but you know, i STILL like the memory of that car. looked really nice.

The Corvair Club of America(?)'s newsletter "Corsa" just had an article on a guy who built a Corvair with a Caddy Northstar engine in it. Apparently it was very nicely done. Widened the rear quarters 2" per side to make it work. One comment I remember from the article is that the drivetrain from a supercharged buick would fit better since it wouldn't need the body to be modified...

Don't have any info on the club though, I know the guy who did the work on the quarters and heard about it from him.

Man, would I ever love one of those Corvair truck things. Each side had a fold down door right smack dab in the middle. Cool as heck.

V-8 Corvairs. (http://v8vairs.com/index.htm)

I saw pics of a 64? vair wagon that was dropped on a 78 malibu chassis, wheelbase lined up perfect, tires fit under the fenders, and they had about $1500 in it. They said it matched up really well. Just an idea if you wanted to get radical with a rust-out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know there's a Barris Spotlight book on Kustomising Corvairs...shows up on the 'bay from time to time.

Paul, the car you're talking about, I blieve that was a Consul Capri.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this topic! Yeah, I love Corvairs and I'd love to make an early-sixties ponycar out of one.

I'm picturing something like this with a 327 and a four-speed up front and a positraction 10-bolt in the rear.

'78-'83 chassis is supposed to be a perfect fit.

Here's the wagon that's mentioned above. It's a '61 according to the CORSA website. I believe they made 'em in '61 and '62... they were replaced in production by the ragtop. They may be rare, but they're not particularly valuable. Cool styling on these things, but I'm not too hot on the VW type drivetrain.

The mid engine V8 thing is interesting, but I'm definitely not going to do that because the engine is my favorite part of the car. It makes me feel like I'm driving a kit-plane. I would really love to see a bubble top corvair!

Have some early 60's custom car mags at the house; they have corvairs in them.
