Got a newly acquired 32 Ford running a 65 Corvette 327 fuelie block, 30 over, camel hump 2.02 heads, solid cam of unknown specs, roller rockers, single plane intake and a 670 Street Avenger, hooked to a TH-350 and a 9". Runs great after 2800 rpm but will shut off if you give it any gas from a stop. Have to really pedel it to get it going. Fuel pressure is 7 psig and the accelerator pump is adjusted properly. This all staerted after I adjusted the valves to eliminate the old electric typewriter sound it came with. Would really like to be able to get off the line without loosening up the valves and beating up the works.

Suggestions welcomed

solid lifters and you adjusted them to get rid of the sound? you do realize they need some lash? your problem started after doing this , what does that tell you? you better find the proper spec's and adjust them correctly

FYI...this area is for doing introductions , not for questions. the main board is for questions

Sorry if I posted incorrectly dude. I'm brand new as of today. Do have some lash

not a problem , didn't mean to rain on your parade....just that a lot of guys (me included) don't check this area out too often. you have a better chance of someone seeing it on the main board

my point was that if your problem started after you messed with the valve lash , that is where i would start looking for the problem. i will say it again, you should find out what they should be set at and adjust them properly . setting solid lifters by the sound can result in some valves not closing all the way

Another problem that bog is a symptom is if there is too much air when you jump on it. When you jump on the throttle, a large gulp of air is introduced, the sytem goes lean and you get a bog. If its a holley - you need to up your primary squirter size to throw more gas in to go with all that air when you kick it open from a dead stop. If it all started after you adjusted your lifters, I would start there like 36-3 window said. post a pic - good luck

I'm also thinking squirter size as it doesn't do anything except go quite and coast to the side of the road so I can restart it. Had the car in S. Florida and it had minor bog before the adjustment. You know, nose dive then leap. Here no dive, no leap. Cold air, denser, more air gets in ......

Did not adjust the valves by sound. My matchbook cover days are gone.

Keep the suggestions coming. Never messed w/ one of these tempermental fuelie blocks before. If and I mean if I have a Duntov cam in this beas, from what I've been able to find on-line, my adjusts are probably wrong and need to be looser. Just that I've never heard a solid lifter motor chatter like this one before I made the adjustment.

The clatter was likely loose lash (say that fast three times).
If the Duntov is one of the earlier grinds, 270 h.p. or 365 h.p, valve lash should be set
at: .012 intake and .018 exhaust.....
