Got back from DOTD last night. Had an absolute blast doing it too. Got to hand it to the Kontinentals for the show.

About 2000 miles round trip in a noisy truck didn't wear me out nearly as much as I thought it would. Austin had me going loopy with all the U-turns needed to navigate the freeway system. Minor problems on my Dad's 30 coupe and solved along the way, but all in all a great time was had by all.

Racing news: plagued with traction problems. Those fancy 17" non-tradional wheels and tires are great for road trips and cornering ability but suck for drag racing.

First run was an all out effort. First gear went straight to the rev limmiter and back pedaling and a second gear shift couldn't bring it down. All I could pull off was a 17.8 @ 97 MPH !!

Second run we dropped the air pressure on the rear tires and started in second gear. I got spin right off the line back pedaled and stabbed it again, bogged and then caught fire only to do a 16 sec at 101 MPH.

Third run was a bit better on the launch but still spun the wheels through the 1/8 mile mark and turned a 15 something at 94 MPH.

Next year I'm bringing slicks and a line lock to get some more heat in the tires.

Thanks guys ! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You definately won the least traction award!

Your top speed tells it all. How many times have you seen a vehicle run 17 seconds at 100mph? That proves that that thing was really putting out the horses in the last 1/8th mile.
Can't wait to see that thing hook up next year. Make sure you bring extra axles and driveshafts.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Thanks for making the drive. Make sure Metalshapes comes with you next year.

I agree with buzzard...you definitely had that category covered. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I didn't get a chance to tell you, but I really dug the way your truck looked and sounded. Thanks for bringing it all the way over to Austin.

...but my top speed was like 88 if'n I remember. When you get it to hook AND you manage not to break something, what do you 'spect to turn?

Sorry I did not make it out there, Hotwheel.

Hopefully next time...

Sounds like you had a lot of fun ElP. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad you got to make it. How did the Mrs. like it?
That will determine if you come back next year.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Steve looks like I owe you a 100mph patch. PM me a copy of your time slip and you addy and its on it way. I was surprised your name wasn't on that list, but I thought maybe the slick track kept it from happening for you.

The Mrs' had a good time, so much indeed she just talked her dad out of the chaneled '32 Roadster he bought in the late 50's !! How about that!

El Jefe, here you go. I lost the last ticket on the way home. but here are the first two.

Forget the slicks..., and bring Snowtires...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Studded would be better for those Icey conditions...!

I told ya we shoulda had everyone in the stands hop in the bed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Slicks and about 300lbs of sand bags ought to do it for next year.

Thanks for making the trip ELP. Your trucks a work of art bro!

No one in the bed as I know what it is like when he does catch traction. If that tailgate was not as strong as it is I would have bent it flying backwards at Viva. Funny it did not hurt to bad until the next morning!

I've heard of using people for traction before but that's a new one on me.

ELP, you are a traveling machine! I saw you and your truck at the HAMB Drags and DOTD. I regret not meeting you at either place but certainly liked seeing that truck. It sounds and looks fantastic man, very nice work!

Thanks for the praise on the truck too! Makes all those sleepless nights and such all worth it.

I was at DOTD too and love your truck. I really liked the setup you have to open the hood. The whole thing folds completely out of the way. I also like the detail in the paint that you cant see in pictures. Leaving the strip was where it got really interesting. I counted at least 7 cops. That was me behind you when one decided to pull a u and follow us through town. I just followed you from there on out. I am sure I met you at one point. I met a lot of people, but I suck with names and being from out of town everyone was new to me.
