On behalf of the Kontinentals, I want to thank everyone for making the DOTD III another weekend for the books. What started off great, actually on Thurs when the OC crew(Circle City) arrived and continued until the hiccup Sat morn when we all awoke to a rainy morning, and then turned right back around by Sat afternoon and we were back on track through Sun afternoon turned out to be a real winner.
Thanks goes to not only my fellow Kontinentals for being great hosts throughout the weekend, but also a big thanks to Gregg and the great folks at Temple Academy for being so patient Sat and waiting it out.......They knew how far everyone came for the weekend and they put that in front of the business end of it and kept all their people there until we could get started. They also had a blast out there w/ us and want to do it more than once a year, so I will keep you posted......."SUMMER NATIONALS"?..........
I have all the records of all the runs from the eliminations at the track if anyone needs any info and also all the driver and car info on the cars that ran.
My highlights for the day....."El Toro #666" belonging to the Harlan clan out of Houston , The Okla Gang(Root in the Drag N Fly and his buddy Ross Collins in the '37 Willys P/U)
going at each other, Jard's '40 Chevy Gasser, all the dragsters and altered's that showed up and made passes and finally Outlaw and Bass duelin' it out in the finals.
We gave out 9-100MPH Patches on Saturday w/ top speed 110.61 on a ET in the 12's in a '62 Nova Wagon(Scott Van Horn). Most of the other 100MPH'ers were in the low to mid 13's except for Jimmy White(Hemi Coupe) on his last run w/ an ET of 12.4 at 101.07 MPH.
Don't know what else to say, but thanks to everyone for coming and having faith. Even if it wouldn't have cleared up, I think we would all gone home w/ smiles on our faces. Some very cool cars and great folks were in attendance. The track owners were blown away by the quality of cars and the quantity of people in spite of such early iffy weather. Thanks again and see ya'll soon.

Thank you guys for putting it on. Yall space the drags and the round up just right so we all won't go crazy! however, having both events more than once a year wouldn't hurt anything! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
thanks again kontinental crew

no, thank you guys!! i drove down on sat. morning from denton. it was cool until waco, that's when i hit the rain. i was gonna meet flat-top to pick up my 56 olds dash, so i kept going. got to the track and saw a small gathering. i got my dash and decided to stick around and see what was gonna happen. bout the time i finished one of those rubber hamburgers they were selling, the sun popped out and i knew we would be racing soon.
i tell ya, you couldn't have picked a better track to host something like this. it felt like a time warp. seeing those cars run down that track under the trees was just like all the stories i've read of old time drags. awesome!!
i left pretty early, but had a good time.
thanks so much, guys.

It ran better then it ever has, but still not to its potential. I think he ran at 14.02? first time down.
Don’t know if it improved the second time.

I can feel for Root I know it has to be frustrating.
Let me be the first to say that Roothawg is a Ruler!
I hope he realizes it.
That car is the coolest drag car I have ever seen.
Its take elephant balls to build one that is that period perfect and stay at it when you’re having trouble with the old speed equipment. He could have said to hell with it and changed out the 283 for a 350 and the hilborn for a 4 barrel, but no he's stayed the course.
That and the fact that he does all this stuff with his Dad makes Root a hero of mine.
Good on ya Root!

Sappy rant over. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks to the Kontinentals for hosting such a great event. Where I grew up, there weren't any trees at a drag race! We were always at closed air strips. It did feel like a time warp and the cars and people were terrific.... I didn't have a finished car to bring so I brought a load of goodies in the back of my pickup- hope that didn't bother anybody. I think a few folks went home happy with some new/oldie parts... The weekend really got my juices going to wrap up a "project". Hope that next year I'll be unloading a gasser to compete with that Willys pickup....
Oh, and thanks to Bob, Jake and his buddy for the caravan.
Kinda like a road rally with no map or clock, just a finish line. It was a great weekend.
