Body panels for '31 A sedan?

Are there pieces available for just underneath the rear quarter windows and the wraparound section behind them? I'm pretty sure that I shouldn't have gotten this car.

find a door that is rotten at the bottom for the 1/4 window part and just make the corner out of sheet metal

Definatly do not get rid of it... The challenge of building it and the pride when it is done will WAY outweigh the doubts you have now...

The HAMB in invaluable with the knowledge that you can get from here along with plenty of people in the INDY area that I'm sure would be willing to give you some pointers or hand.

Just my thought,,,, but then again I just got back from a 1000 mile one way trip to pick up a body that looks 20 times worse than that one.....

I haven't tackled a project this big either, but looks like it is do-able and will be a blast to drive knowing that I had nothing to start with....

if you know how to weld, read a ruler and have patience
you can replace the damaged areas.

i recently got a book at the swap called Auto Restoration, from Junker to Jewel by Burt Mills, cost me $3.00 and has lots of good info... most i already knew, but learned a couple more tricks. buy some books, they usually have all the info you need but keep in mind the one thing they cant replace is hands on experience, so take your time.

anyway, you can find the pieces you need on a junked sedan which is either the same yr or same design... in your case, the belt lines need to match up.

another alternative is to cut out a thin slice of the belt line you need and take it to someone that can make you a panel. im sure there are a few metal fabricators where you live.... indiana is/was industrial central.

simply put, youre into it already... it would be silly to sell it off to get a better body. if you overpaid, you will probably wont get the cash back... its a chopped sedan with a filled roof and sunroof(??, get rid of the sunroof!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif), thats alot of work done already - all you have to do is the minor body fixs.

Stick with the project, It will be worth it. Remember my moto: The worst I can do is fuck it up completly; and with a welder and some sheet metal that can't happen, besides you might have some fun with it.

Please explain why you need these parts. Are yours bent? I am looking for the quarter panel ends that wrap around the beltline (in any shape). Why do you need new ones?

good advice - fuckin it up completely can happen if you are just careless...

low springs gave me some good advice once (and that was the ONLY time, haha)... its metal, screw it up it can always be fixed...metal also has a memory, it will wants to go back to its original shape, you just gotta put some love into it.

this is assuming you have control over your welder and not the other way around.

Looks like it spent too much time on it's side,
and water collected in the body lines,creating rust through.

Assuming that is the worst problem you have,with that body,I would say that it's worth saving..


If you can cut and weld,I would look for some cheap doors to cut up to get the shapes you need.
Even 4 door rear doors will work if the body lines are similar.
Doors usually go on the bottom,you need the top.
The part behind the window is basicly a simple curve,a little flat sheet metal will take care of that.

In fact I MIGHT have some that would work.

Email me a close up picture of the body line profile,and I'll check what I have on hand.

Get into it, like people say finding some patch panel material ex a sedan would work easy.

It sounds like you've hit the car builder's version of "writer's block". It just seems like you can't get there from here.

Usually that comes right before you get frustrated enough with the damn thing, and really start digging into it. As others said, you get to a stage when you don't care if you fuck something up; you just want to make progress.

Get over this hump, figure out what parts you really need to replace, and we'll all help you along.

They are trying to make you feel better...

You guys have to notice the donor roof section that looks like it came from a minivan (complete with ribs and sunroof)
The hacked up firewall with conventional style hinges that hinge from the firewall... the unique bodyline above the doors... the patch panels that are welded over the rust... I could go on...
