Any of you HAMBers ever run a 54 Merc Meteor Niagara?
I found the one pictured below, sitting in the bush rotting. I tracked down who the owner is but haven't approached him about it yet. It is all original with the flathead 8 (seized) and complete interior. Has some rotting floor boards but other than that ir's pretty damn straight. Just looking for some feedback on these cars
now some pics

I belive the Meteors are the Canadian versions and they had different grills. I've seen 49-51 Meteors but never a 52-54. That is cool.

I don't recall ever seeing one either. but if you deck it can I have the doohickey off the trunk?
Looks like it could have a thousand and one possibilities.

Why would this one have a Flathead? I assumed all N. American Fords got the OHV engines starting that year.

What little I know about them: The Canuck versions came in three different trim levels that year, just like the Yank versions - Meteor, Niagara and Rideau. Should be all the same, save for the trim, grille and maybe a few body panel tweaks.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I have a phone number for a fella who claims to be an expert in these cars, if you're interested.

Canadian Fords kept the flattie a year longer than US production. They didn't miss much anyway... just the 239 and 256 Y-blocks.

The book 55 Years of Mercury - The complete History of the Big M has an excellent section on Canadian built Ford products. It explains pretty well how the different Canadian models fit in with their US counterparts. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is an old thread I just came across but I thought it'd be worth re-opening. Here are a few pics of my '54 Meteor (mild custom w/239 flatty) I sold a few years back. Anyone else on here have a 50's Meteor, customized or stock? If so, let's see some pics!

It's alway fun telling people that Ford in FACT DID continue the 'ole flatty well into 1954 in Canada - and several other countries.

If you were REALLY determined; you could order an EARLY 1955 Ford in Canada with a flathead.
(my dad had one)
Ford usually obliged until stock ran out; - my dad was one of the...
"If it ain't BROKE!; Why change it!"

Because Ford wasn't know for wasting anything!!
