I was just surfing the web and went to their website. I have an old Engle 95 solid cam circa 1965. So I thought, I'll price a roller cam and see what they get on one.

$500??? What? Yep. That's what it says.

Is this a real life price or do they just want you to seek out a retail dealer?

Anyone a dealer for Engle?

SBC. Most other cam companies run about 239-275. I just about fell over when I saw that.

Some roller cams are carved from a billet, instead of a casting, which would be more money.

Did that include lifters ?

Just a guess.

Their hydraulic flat tappet cams are $93 to $170+.

So for $500 you should be getting some GOOD Shit.

Must make the hydraulic SBC's by the boatload an roller's as a "homegrown" custom grind, or by sellin' one or two roller's pays for all the hydraulic SBC's they sell cheep.
Who knows?

Doug Herbert has them cheap. Then you can just buy an Engle sticker.

Hey has anyone ran these Herbert cams or springs? Just wondering if the quality is all its cracked up to be.

I am hoping they have good stuff because if they do, this is a major find!!

I got my SBC solid roller straight from Lunati. I don't remember the exact price, but for a billet solid roller cam (with the cast distributor gear, so you don't have to change the gear on the dizzy), lightweight roller lifters, and shipping, I'm pretty sure it was less than $600.

EDIT: Mine's also a small base circle cam, which herbert charges extra for.

A buddy of mine built a 406 for his Elco. When it came time for the cam choice, he's pretty particular about the specs, he did a bunch of research. Found an obscure grind in the Engle catalog that appealed to him and called them. Jack Engle answered the phone. Engle asked some questions, said he was crazy for using this cam on the street (but admired his style) and took the order. When it arrived it had a hand written note on the cam card. "Good luck, have fun, Jack". It's a solid roller, more cam than I run in my strip only coupe, and the coupe will stand on bumper and run mid 9s. The motor will rev to 7600 and a heavy right foot will break the tires loose at any speed below 100 mph. It's not a high dollar motor, I know he didn't spend $500 on the cam.

Based on the results I've seen, it would be worthwhile to call Engle and see what the deal really is.

I know of two guys who race with them in NC. One was cheap as hell at the Doug Herbert yard sale or whatever the hell they call it...as far as I know, they're both still running them. One was a SBC bracket car and the other was a Chevy II BBC running high 5s in the 1/8 mile.

sort of a stray thought...but I've always dealt with Erson. I started dealing with them cause they were my hometown company, but they have good prices and do excellent work. They ground the cam for my stude for $60, and had it done in like 2 days. anyway, just a thought

I don't know what they get for their rollers, but while working with COMP Cams, I've found a couple of very interesting things, not the least of which is that every NASCAR team that is running a COMP Cam has BOUGHT it from them, they were not given to the race teams so they'd run a sticker on their car.
I thought that said a lot.
They've also invested a larger amount of money in R&D than I can imagine, in regards to cam lobe profiles, controlling valves, springs, etc.

Just my thoughts on it. Take it for what it's worth.
