I diddn't like the yellow primer so I sanded it down and primered it grey. Then I got fancy and I dusted the whole thing with pearl.... It kind of looks silver now.

I also painted the wheels and put on some spyders, then I left off all the unnessasary bullshit that was on the car. Like dummy spots curb feelers and bumper guards.

It looks a little cooler than it did a week ago. I really can't wait to dive into this thing for real.

It will need alot of body work because it must have been stripped at some point with a body grinder. Some spots ar super straight, others are kind of scary. It seems the guy I got it from did more harm to it than good.

But, overall it is AWSOME. The origional hammer welding and bodywork is fantastic, it's just been abused a little after all these years. Which I guess is to be expected.

I've got big plans for this thing. It will end up being completly different when I am done, but it will still retain it's origional charm.

Here is how it looked last week.

Here's what it looks like now. It will eventailly be turned into a full on early sixties style show Custom. With Candy paint and lots of neat details.

I still hate the whole front, especially the grill and the T Bird scoop. I was experimenting with some flat Black to give the illusion of a bigger grill opening.

I call this "The Bozo Effect."

That thing is really different (in a good way).

Are those the wheels you were using on that nailhead roadster you were building? I dig 'em.

Pearl in the Clear?? or pearl in the primer?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Here it is next to my chopped shitbox. You can see how tiny it is. It's really radical.

This is such a special old car, hopefully I can make it better than it ever was.

It will stay in primer for a while. I plan to go over one panel at a time and make it perfect. I've got some really neat Ideas for the front end. And for new taillights and the back of the fins.

When we drive it to the Pile Up and back it will have seen more miles in a weekend than it has in over twenty years......

I am Bleeds rodie. I love Bob the most. He has a stratrod that is now painted silver. I like silver Bob. You should wear all silver when you drive that car. Like a spacesuit. Then with a metalflake silver helmet.

Pearl over the primer, no clear. It is pearl basecoat.

I just intended to paint the wheels that burgandy color, but then with the silver sheen of the car I thought I'd fog them. I diddn't even realise until they were done that they look just like the Bleedster wheels. HaHaHa Oops.

Looking good Bob. I still think a 49-50 Merc grill cavity & a floating grill like we were talking about would look cool. I also would remove the scoop, but when I had this car w/ a flathead in it I needed the scoop to clear the rear carb. DAVE

The phaeton is for sale in the Classifieds. Has been for a few days. You should buy it.

My plans for the front are way more radical than a 50 merc cavity. That stuff is too big for this petite car. I want to be like the El Mateador 40 ford.

This thing will rule when I get the tractor tires I bought off of ebay on it........

It's too cold to push the Bleedster out.

How Cold is it??? Should I bring a nice winter coat???

I knew you would build a cool car...

As much as I hate them this one RULES!!!

Is the Hbomb going to make the Pile Up???

bobbleed

Real cold. It's suppose to be warmer, but I'd bring a coat for sure.

I just put the Tub on ebay. It's neat, but doesn't really do it for me so I am selling it. If no one buys it I'll finish it up.

The El Matador is awsome. The shoebox will be in the same vain, when I'm done. Lime gold candy.

Cushenberry's cars of the late 50's /early 60's are some of my favorite.

Yep it's going to the Pileup for sure. Evel and Tuck are going to wrestle to drive it. The Cheaters are riding in the trunk.

One of the cutouts are welded shut. I've been debating cutting it open.

Tuck do you have any good drivers door glass that I could borrow for the weekend? My glass is busted. I could probably make something out of plexi quick if I have too.

You REALLY see the difference next to the other shoebox. Very cool. Can't wait to see it in person Bob! Good idea on the grille area.

Ever since I saw your car, it reminded me a little bit of a very radical custom shoebox that was in an early issue of Popular Hot Rodding. I finally found the issue last night so here it is (Issue No. 1, 1962). Obviously there's nothing "the same" between the two cars, but I figured it was neat to see someone else's take on a radical 60's shoebox show car. Congrats on finding the one you have...that is too damn cool.

Wow that's cool, I like the wrap around windshield...... Thanks.

Curt Six
10-06-2004, 02:48 PM
According to the article, the windshield is actually the back glass from a '53 Stude and the top is a "highly modified '41 Chevrolet" roof.

lookin better bob...
something about the shape of it bugged me when you first posted it, and with your new photos ive worked out what it is, The rocker behind the door angles up to meet the line behind the rear wheel, and this makes the back of the roof look too bulbous, sorta wasp waisted.
if the rocker continued straight to the rear wheel it would balance the side profile up. Maybe someone with photoshop could make this adjustment and see if im thinkin straight , or talkin shit. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

that Dragon is fukken awesome. I love customs with really short turrets.

Looking good, Its interesting to see something from to today seem like it could have come from back in the 60's.

Hey bob, any secrects to your bitchin fog job on the wheels. I was thinking of running that sort of look with a candy red and candy lime gold on a watson style 59 biscayne that I am building for a buddy.

That thing has way cool potential, I can definately see cool things that could happen with that car.

Thanks

I like the car but I'd have to redo the front, as you were saying earlier. If you can find a photo of Cecil Profit's red, chopped, sectioned shubox coupe, take a look, His had canted quad headlights with a really narrow lower front rolled pan. Looked great. His car sat really low too.
I agree the quarters don't look right. Almost looks like it may have had damage where the bottoms of the 1/4 panels got bent upward or something. I'm sure the modification is intentional but........................

Cecils sectioned red coupe had a 56 Chrysler grill and single headlights and slanted posts. The sectioned carson top car,Soo Low had canted quads with 55 DeSoto grille and a rolled pan. There was also another sectioned coupe with canted quads and a 50 Merc shell and grille but if memory serves me correct that car had a 53 Ford front bumper .Which car exactly are you referring to ?Im curious.

bobbleed
10-12-2004, 09:35 PM
This car was built in the early 60's. For real....

Yeah the front, the quarters, the fins the tailights , the bumpers, pretty much everything is going to be refined and changed.

The car will be entirely different when I am done. It will be obvious it is the same car, it will just be less confused.......

This car is really fast. Haha
