Well, been lurking here for a while, so it's time to introduce myself.....
I'm a native Californian from San Francisco, moved to Sonoma in 1980. Attended McAteer High School in SF, but spent all my time in auto shop.
I've owned a crap load of cars over the years, starting with a 57 chevy pickup with a 302 and a Muncie, used to street race on Brotherhood Way and Ocean Beach, and hung out at the A & W in Daly City in the mid 70's. They still had car hops back then...
Anyway, the street racing died out by the time I moved North, probably a good thing since the tickets were getting pretty expensive, along with my insurance. Since then, I owned Harley's and a few older trucks, but just bought my first Model A last year, basically just a frame and pickup cab, so far most of my fab time has been getting the body back into shape so I can locate the motor and trans mounts on the original frame which I need to box.
Current stable of cars is a 4 door 57 Chevy with a 283 and powerglide, disc brakes and power steering, slightly lowered in front and sagging original springs in the rear with steelies and baby moons. It's a great driver, even with the cast iron PG. Plans include a new tranny (700r4), and some engine compartment clean up.
Also driving a 64 GMC PU in black primer with a 350 and automatic. Basically my daily driver, and lastly, the Model A pickup which is a work in progress....current plans call for a 283 with three dueces, traditional front and rear buggy spring suspension, drum brakes, 32 grill shell, and a shortened pickup box. Still mulling over whether to channel the body or not, depends on how I "fit" into the cab.
Been involved in welding and fabrication most of my adult life, basically it's my relaxation from the day to day grind.
So far this has been a great forum for me, hope I can give something back one day. :)
