My kind of hybrid car.

Here's what I worked on this week. My American/Italian hybrid.

This was done as a suggestion for a build that's about to begin.
59 T-Birds were known as the "square birds". They are mostly
known by that, less than flattering, moniker because of their
angular roof and overall view from above. BUT, like an iceberg
there's 90% that you don't get to see. I wanted to cut about 10%
of that away to reveal some really attractive elements.
First the roof goes away. Then I narrowed the grill area to reveal
the front wheels in a roadsterish fashion. I radiused the rear wheels,
dechromed it dropped it down low and tried to give it an Italian
sports car treatment.

Here's the Tuono Ucello... Italian for Thunderbird.

Another coffee break drawing.

It's a drawing of a model I built in 1968. I still have that model!

Bic pen on plain white paper.

This one is special to me. I found this treasure while prowling through my own storage last weekend. I thought it was lost.

YEARS ago, I had a polaroid of an old car my dad and I found on a back road in New Mexico.
I was young and we never went back for the car but I had the photo. (it's not a duece, it's a Studebaker).

My grandma was getting up there in years but she still painted a miniature once in awhile.
She got ahold of that photo and painted this for me in oil. I suspect it was a birthday gift.

Grandma's gone now, dad too... I've lost the photo and thought the painting was long gone.
Damn I was thrilled to find it. Now I don't have to work so hard to remember.

Fatt Stripe, thanks for getting us going. Nice work

Lockwood, I like the idea of using the '61-'62 Cadillac rear quarters. I'd messed around with that myself. That concept you have going is cool.

Gary, The Bird is the WORD BROTHA! I figure thats Charlie's car, eh?
That sketch is speakin' to me as well. Love the weight and volume you got out of
that scribble.

40pu, nice twist on the theme. Love the renderings.

Pacheco, dig the rig! That pick-up looks great.

Eric,... another Black beauty. Love those Fords and you made that one irresistible.

GaryC. : I really like the "Italian" T-bird Gary!
Pacheco : Very nice again Gabe.
Blackie : Stunning!
CougarDan : That's a real gem.
FortyPickup : That's just awesome Neal; a "bubbletop" like that makes perfect sense: No more lack of headroom!

Got nothing "on topic" this week that I can show yet but I'd like to contribute anyway:

Hey Fellas! Great show thus far!

It's been soooo long since I posted in the art thread, I still thought that it started on Thursdays

I just finished up some self promo design stuff for my website car-n-art.com I wanted to share

The Fuel:
http://car-n-art.com/images/gascan.jpg

I like it enough that I thought I'd mock up some t-shirt ideas:
http://car-n-art.com/images/t-shirt-ideas.jpg

The web/postcard ad:
http://car-n-art.com/images/cna-ad.jpg

And if you haven't been there in awhile (or never at all) I made a few updates and I'm now selling some of the posters I showed off here:

TRIPOWER:

BLOWN:

This stuff is insane. Phred, A-chicken, Dutch, Britt, A32, Jez, just amazing work.

Dutch that bike drawaing is too cool.

WideWhiteWalls---always impressed with your work.

Did I miss anyone? Great start all!

Here's one I did for a fellow H.A.M.B.er. I was hoping to finish it in time for Halloween
but just didn't get the time. It is done using Prismacolor, ink and markers on 11x14 bristol board. The sky remains unfinished on the actual drawing and will be airbrushed. For now, just to get it on the show this week, I photoshopped it in.
The scan effected the color so it isn't exact but, with so adjustments, it's close.

Here is : "ZOMBIE ATTACK!" ( or: "Well,... the chrome's done." )

Man, that's some crazy stuff ! Do you have a machine you program or is it done "freehand"? Really cool!

I still digitize the "Traditional" way, still hand draw my art, and use a Board and Puck to plot the stitches, as Ive done since I started in 87. Im still using 1988 software.

Here are pics of the process

Art is scanned and Printed, enlarged to 3/1 it possible and traced adjusting for pull in problem areas.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/graphicspitstop/5th.jpg
Wire frame or line art is taped to the digitizing board, center and horizontal angle are plotted in. Stitch type and machine functions are on the menu at the left side of the board.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/graphicspitstop/2nd.jpg
Stitch type is chosen on the menu, using various key combos on the puck I define the shapes of each segment.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/graphicspitstop/3rd.jpg
After the design has been plotted in, I run through and edit on screen, fine tuning the points Ive input. Then it goes to the machine for a proof on similar material or graments to its intended use.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/graphicspitstop/4th.jpg
I then watch the sewing, and make adjustments to what I see happening on the machine.

Shading is done by plotting and sewing another color over the base color but with less density. Mixing colors by eye.

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u78/graphicspitstop/IM003385.jpg

once this program is done, its just a matter of reading it into the machine, setting the color sequence, and watching them sew. A design like the skulls above can run into 40 hours of programming to get the 1st proof, then editing from there.

Sweet work man!

I was working on one of them Big Finks at one time too. It got sent to me when I was asked to take part in an art show in Austin for the SXSW opening of the "Tales of the Rat Fink" movie.

Bad timing, work deadlines and just bad luck kept me from finishing it.

It currently site out back on my patio, half finished....

Here's some work in progress pics from back in 2006 when I was working on it. It's further along than some of these pics. I'll finish it... someday....

Yosemite Sam!!! Wow, the craziest paint jobs from the seventies came from his masking tape and spray guns.

I haven't heard that name in years!!!

WOW! A big thanks to Polock, Pacheco, Jigger, GaryC,Steve V, Fortypickup,ewt2,Acrochicken and 40Stude!!!!!

Stinson, both pieces are amazing. I am a big fan of the Ramchargers and that drawing is even more amazing in larger scale!

Jigger- That is too cool! How's yat Zombie to sit still long enough for that nice figure study?

Brewsir- Excellent striping. Extremely tasteful and compliments the bike well!

Bman416- Verrrry nice!!!!!

I'm proud to finally be able to post some work. I've been working on this for a couple months now. All in all I think it took me between 30-35 hours if not more. Painting done for the one and only Howie Nisgor through a panel swap. Can't wait to see what mine looks like. The paint...1-Shot, of course.

Crook: Thanks, went to your web site, nice sign work!

SteveV & ToddJ: Thanks & an Awsome Illustration back at ya!

Coupe-De-Cab:
That would be an Awsome Embroidery project. Black & Blue Velvet, with a lace overlay, applique for the punched out material and the Skeleton Embroidered. I can see it framed and on a wall in my head.....If I ever get some free time, well have to talk about that

OK, trying to keep this going for a few more posts. Older stuff again.
