Howdy all,
The Hambster Herd's a group of HA/GR builders roughly in the SoCal and MidCal areas that've been e-mailing each other for a bit. We figure it'll work and spread better here.

Howdy gentlemen,

Methinks I may have an idea (for awhile now) about how we might run within an existing bracket class ('til the day we can paste together an HA/GR class), and next year we'll have enough cars to try it.

It isn't the "porch dog" or the "round robin" thing we want eventually but it might get us going in that direction within existing structures.
We select a suitable venue at whatever meet we're attending (such as open wheel bracket, at ANRA meets) Then, with the track's knowlege & help (or without'em if need be), we arrange to be staged together 'til there's only one of us left.
We can sell this as a little extra show interest, "HA/GR vs HA/GR" and have our own eliminations within theirs. The eventual winner then continues on in the bracket normally.
In that we aren't as consistent as most bracket racers today (except for Lee ) this will also ensure seeing HA/GRs into subsequent rounds.

The show that Lee and I put on this way at the last ANRA meet was thoroughly enjoyed by the fans and was a blast for us. The announcer talked it up well and I believe it did a lot for our class.
We need to be seen racing together or the concept of an HA/GR class won't be conveyed. The result'll be folks thinking of it as no more than a cute bracket "sub-division".
Ideally the effect would be to hear someone ask "What the hell, is there an HA/GR class now?" at every meet we attend. To which we'd answer "Not yet, but we're working on it." or "To us there is." or some such.

What do you guys think?

I also have an idea for (and am willing to make) a "trophy" of sorts that'll reflect the class (humorously, of course) and be passed from winner to winner at subsequent meets. :D

that announcer was me!

you guys remember from the finals that butch was running Time Only between rounds to keep the track hot and noise in the air.

i don't see why, if we've got enough cars, we cant do the same with the HA/GRs

you guys can run Open Wheel because you paid for your tech card and you have a shot at prize money, and group up for 'exhibition eliminations' between rounds.

And a good announcer too!!

It looks like 2009 is going to be a good year for the HA/GRs at Famoso.

Now it's up to us "builders in progress" to get our butts in gear and build enough cars to give you a show.

Were thrashin' on ours.:D

Howdy Mitch,

Wow, that's a couple steps farther than I was expecting to see for awhile, and a killer idea to boot (wish I'd had it ......... guess that's why I'm no promoter).

How many cars do you think it'd take for us to stage an "Exhibition Eliminations" slot like you mention?
We're presently expecting to have four early next year, and perhaps seven by the end of it.

We could flesh it out a bit for now by running our "porch dog" rounds as well if that'd help.

hey Dick...
i think 4 cars would be a good start.
Butch gets a kick out of them.
i think the racers get a kick out of them.
i like having 15 seconds worth of mic time to talk about them :)

you guys know how open butch is in regards to doing things for the racers. in this case, it helps you, helps us.

way i see it is...
there are a bunch of guys running two classes like hot rod and D or E gas...

why not you guys too.

in our (ANRA) earlier discussions, 8 cars can constitute a class. the demand for E gas was such that we added it this year and its been a hit.

we were running NE1 & 3 and A & B Gas with 3-6 cars at palmdale but only because there are enough cars running to constitute a full field. its just that back then we couldnt'd get them to run the sand drags.

7 cars next year would be tops.
i have enough stuff to put one together (it wouldn't be a 100% legal HA/GR, but you guys like me too much to say no) and you could probably get Gary Atkinson (Flathead Express 32 bantam altered) to join ranks to make up a full field of 'Inliners and Flatheads'. (gary's car has a little 239 flatty with an auto and a narrow slick and runs about as hot as The Barn Job)

something to think about anyway....
