Been a while since we got the scenesters wound up! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Picked up the new Social Distortion tonight after a bunch of shit went wrong on my plans for the touring. It got me so fired up I went to the shop and worked on some punchlist items I had not planned!! Good album and it kept me pumped to work on my HOT ROD!

BTW, they lyrics really show how much Dennis Danell is missed.

NOW, for all of you wankers that wanna talk smack about music and the scene, fuck you, go work on your car like I did. Oh, wait..........you drive a HONDA? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So I have to ask... is it FAST? I grew up listening to Social D's EARLY stuff, and it was good... then as they got older, they just played the same songs at 1/3 speed!?! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I'm going to see Tiger Army & the Explosion, and I was trying to decide if I'd fall asleep during the "Headlining" act (Social D); I guess it's like the T-shirts the local punk rock club had printed... "Sometimes you're Headlining, and Sometimes you just play last..." http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you are expecting the old school SD you will probably be disappointed. Mike has taken Sd into a new direction. But on one note... the countryfied rockasilly sound is long gone. The new stuff actually presents a more positive vibe... to me it comes accross like Mike is a happy person now. I like the CD alot. I really like that song "Highway 101"

This album is amazing....Highway 101 has to be one of their best songs. 8 long years Ive waited for this thing to come out, and here it is. Listening to that song makes me want to move back to SoCal....hmmm theres an idea.

Listening to it now. I dig it. Though I've dug everything they ever put out. Though the first 2 albums sound very dated to me now. I guess somewhere along the line I grew up a little.

I feel the same Zman. BTW, what would happen if Dman, zman,Tman all got togehter (sorry I forgot one of the mans http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

It is faster, track one rocks hard. I backed the car up to the shop and cranked it while I worked last night.

My only gripe and the lack of pics of Mikes 54 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. He does have his pout down bettern ever http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Has anyone picked up the "another state of mind" DVD? I saw social distortion in bakersfield, pretty good....for some old farts. Can you imagine how fuckin cool that must be to be that old (their old in punk rock years) and still be putting out records. Social Distortion saw it all as far as the early punk scene is concerned, they're one of the founding fathers (with the exception ofearly rock n roll).
from what I hear, you used to put your life at risk at some of the early shows....and now they call good charlotte and avril lavine punk?!!

"Just to show you we all weren't born cool."

what was more cool than that look back in 81 or so, cruiseing your Mongoose BMX listing to some Van Halen and jumping trash cans all while smoking some brick weed you got from the mocasin wearing felllow hession at school..ha,ha looks like my friend mark back then..

forgot to add all while wearing your favoite 3/4 sleeved concert shirt with short OP shorts and knee high striped socks..hell yeah... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The new CD kicks ass>
You guys should also check out the new DVD "Social Distortion: Live in Orange County"it contains live footage of them in concert plus Mike cruisin around town. It's cool he says he doen't need a radio in it because the sound of the flathead is all he needs.
Social D is playing out here in Albuquerque tomorrow night. Should be cool I haven't seen them live in 3 years.

They are playing here this Saturday with a bunch of new bands that I have never heard of. Supposed to be back stage for the whole shing dig( have in at the local radio station). I will let Mr. Ness know what you all think. Hope they play 1945. The local paper here did a phone interview with him and he says "I don't have to always right about the bad stuff." Hope the show is good.

This is going to piss a bunch of people off but I don't think it is as good as WL WH WT. I don't know if you could compare it to that album though, they are a totally different band now.

Wasn't a SxDx album recorded in 99 and then shelved or unfinished for some reason. Talked to one of his old roadies and friends that was a roadie for Rev HH and he said it was supposed to come out. This was three years ago though. He wasn't just bullshitin us either because he told us his 54 had just gotten painted purple.

They still are a solid band, and I like Tiger Army... damnit

I guess he will get the intro of the HAMB due to myself being the drunk one in the HAMB shirt. Here are the bands that are opening for them. The Used, Chronic Future, My Chemical Romaance, (local boys Ozomatli), Lostprophets. i guess I am old since none of these bands I know. I am going for the free back stage deal and beer.

Tman
10-01-2004, 01:59 AM
Ron, trust me, Mike knows about the HAMB!

In years past, Mike and SD, have been hammered here on the HAMB by poseurs that wanna talk smack, loo at the first post I made on this thread, that what was I was referring to.

i have yet to get the new CD,but i did pick up the DVD..has a whole thing with mike ness drivin around in his ford (yes,i said FORD with a flatty)...he DOES have more than his 54..i know that and accept that... lol
creepy

Tman

OK, to set the record straight. Mike Ness appeared in CKD1, he "posed" with the Corvette mill and a Torquewrench. He metioned it was for his 54 and something about his kid driving it in years to come (forgive me I am lazy, the magazine is downstairs but you get the drift)

Sailor here on the HAMB (where are you dude!?) coined the phrase when many of us realized we all had 53/54 Chevys. The phrase? Rockstars With Torquewrenches!!!! No dis-respect to Mike Ness, we dug the fact he had a 54 that Cole Foster did his Voodoo on. The tounge-in-cheek name of a HAMBcentral group of 53-54 Chevy guys became ROCKSTARS WITH TORQUEWRENCHES! Mike happens to be an inspiration for 53/54 Chevy guys. Cole knows how passionate I am about these cars.Mine is just a mild driver right now, but the love is as strong as Mike has for his custom.

My understanding is that they recorded a whole record with Dennis Danell on guitar. Due to his unfortunately and untimely death from a brain aneyuerism it was shelved. We may never hear it. I am sure it must be hard to put out something devasting like that. Mike was qouted as saying he was strucken with grief beyond all possible explaination. It was a sad deal. To see that this album even came to be is actually uplifting in itself. I am suprised mike didn't close up shop. I think people are missing that aspect of this album. Mike moved on for a reason odviously... Dennis can't be replaced. And it aint the same without him. Might as well not pretend. And like I said earlier... he seams happier now than ever... I have been listenin' to SxDx since they were the local act fuckin' up stones tunes.... and I repeat.. he sounds happier than ever.

Back in the late 80's I mixed sound on the road and tour managed bands for a while. One of the bands I worked with SLURPEEEEE! toured the southeast with S.D. , well I call 7 dates a tour... The guys were nothing but cool. Down to earth and treated us right. I always loved the music, but when you meet someone like that and they are cool with you it makes the music that much better. Not once did I see them pull any rockstar shit. As a matter of fact they pretty much just wanted to find parts for their cars and UPS them back to Cali...
