I suppose anybody that thinks a 46-48 Plymouth is ugly prolly also thinks a 46-48 ford has better lines. Not me. I like the "leaning post" mopars a lot better..takes less modification to make a killer custom as evidenced by the photo...
Cut on the wrong side of the masking tape, eh? Happens.
So who are you gonna pay attention to?
The infamous "someone" - who in most cases doesn't have a car, couldn't build a car, doesn't know jack . . . or your dad's good lookin Plymmie? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Speedracer, that's a beautiful car. Too bad about the Chevy motor though.
Do you have any pics of the interior?

People who say certain cars are "ugly no matter what" have no imagination.
They just like to look at the same thing over and over and over and over again and will only approve of that which has been approved by the mass majority.

Dude, that car is so awesome. I saw it up close in person and it is really neat. The only thing i didnt like about it was that.........well, i dont know how to say this.........It came in on a trailor! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif hehe. O! Busted!
But seriously i met Speedracer at Springfield Mo this year and he is really cool. They had to trailer it cus the gears were too High or too low and it was at High RPM's on the highway. Is that correct? Its a neat car.

Nice Sled! The 'critic' who did not like your car must be an 'elitist wanker' who never seem's to be happy. An early Hemi slid i the frame rail's and you'd have both base's covered: Hot Rod motor, Custom Sled. Neat Plymouth!

yeah i had to trailer it to springfield the gears we had in it were way too low with 14" tires and it started to over heat about 30 miles from home and i realy didnt want to miss the show.... but i drove it to ottowa ks show and then drove it to the speedway show in kc this last weekend... thats the only time you will see it on a trailer at a show......

But then I like old boats too, Great looking car!

GV, not sure that a mahogany deck would add anything to an already good looking car...I thot Caddys were looooooooooooong...this Chrysler is as long as any Caddy...and lower. That red three window just proves a silk purse can be made from a sow's ear!!!

My boy is finishing up his 48, How about a butt ugly 4 door turned into a three door, fronts streched 5 inches and the back passanger door shortened 5 inches and the rear driver door got welded up. Oh yea, on curb side the post opens with the rear sucide door. Like the new pickups.

The 42-48(actually early 49s used the same body too as the intro to the "real" 49 line was late for Mopar that year) Plymouths are, in my mind the best proportioned of the Mopar offerings in conjunction with the 8cylinder Chryslers.
They were very popular as mild customs as evidenced by their appearance in many many of the "little books" in the 50s-60s and many pictures sent in by readers to the mags as well.
The cars are well built, have substantial frames, good suspensions and dependable though not the top of the heap in power in the "Low-priced Three".

I don't think paint would kill it, it would be awesome shiny..
But I don't think "bright orange metallic" or whatever is the right color for the car.. At all. My first thought was deep maroon, although a lot of classy customs seem to wear it.. But for good reason. Maybe a deep dark blue or maybe even shiny black? But hey, it's just my opinion.

Hey, Chrysler liked that design so well they used it from 1942-48 and then kept it around for half the 49 model year until the new design cars were ready. THAT IS WHY 49 Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler trim parts parts are so darned hard to find.

that's a bitchin' car. i had 2 47's myself. the first one was chopped, and badly chopped. the second one, was on an s10 frame. both were built before i was 15 in my dad's garage. at the time, they were the only cars that i could afford, but i grew to love them . great job!.
