It was a dark and stormy night.. I was out in my brother's leaky, cold old barn he calls a garage, and we were swappin' out old rubber bits for new rubber bits under a gas light (read: belts and hoses).. for his 66 chrysler (318 powered).. Ok he lives in Sterling Heights and it was a sunny, 75 degree day.. but come on, we need some drama here...

.. So I be swappin them heater hoses out (see Pirate post for explanation of pirate accent) when I peek behind and under the intake manifold... and I See..... TIN FOIL.. you know.. like REYNOLDS WRAP.. WTF? Har!! I touched it.. it was gooey and warm.. like uh..... so anyway;

It had some sort of "thing" inside it.. a rag.. I dunno.. it was weird. After a long day of grueling heat (not really) and playing with vintage hose clamps... (cool but a pain..) I checked my '62.. in the same spot.... on my venerable 413 C.I. monster was................ FUCKING TIN FOIL...

Someone... please... shaggy, scoob, velma... anybody... I'm dying to know what this is.. Factory installed Reynolds Wrap?

Signed,

Flustered, confused, and feeling like a pirate

Yup, tis factory. Its a fiderglass in side it I remember correctly. It was used as a heat shield for the intake. I would toss it in the trash, but thats just me.

It is a heat shield. I made a new one from a piece of foil faced sound deadener. It helps to keep your intake charge cool.

Open the foil and enjoy your warm burrito. Good for Smores
too.
