I figured now was as good a time as any to post an update on what I've got done with the old chevy. My last update was after it was painted. Since then I had to paint again due to shadows on the paint (uneven) which we determined was caused by not having enough paint on the car. Finally got that all done and rubbed out and put the chrome goodies back on the car. Me and a buddy fabricated some mounts for the 53 corvette grille (stocker was beyond junk when I bought it) and turnsignals from the local truckstop. I still have a few minor things to do, but it's getting there. Hope to make it to the pileup in a couple weeks. If you see this thing, stop and say hello...especially if it is alongside the highway!

This shows the grille after it was installed. Yeah I know, chrome bumpers would be nice, but this thing was built on a shoestring budget. I've got all of $6500 in this thing plus or minus $100. Oh yeah, it also shows the peaked hood and frenched headlights too.

looks good

you may want to put some rattle can silver on the bumpers for a little contrast.

Rattle can the bumpers? I don't think so...that was the previous incarnation of the car with the primer and flames. I'll gladly chrome them for ya if you want to send me a blank check to cover the cost http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif The color is electric green metallic, it's a 1999-2000 stock Ford Color.

Tbone the car has a '69 327 SBC that is 11.1 comp .030 over with a crane cam 495lift/285 duration. Runs a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake with an old POS Holly 780cfm 4barrel. Hey I like my customs to go fast too! Trans is a TH350 and the rear end is out of a 73 Nova (10 bolt) turning 3.42 gears. I switched out the stock M/C for a dual using the ECI bracket and they work real good now with the stock drums. All new brake/fuel lines along with front floor pans and a new trunk floor. Had to fix rust along the bottoms of the doors and use a patch panel behind the right rear tire too. Frenched headlights using 52 Merc rings and peaked the hood using the welded rod technique I learned here. Inside is pretty much stock except the seatbelts and (groan) tilt steering with the original wheel. I'm short as hell so the tilt helps me see better and is more comfortable for me to drive with. Rear taillights are 54 Chevy bezels with Lee bubble lenses, and big ol echo cans on dual exhaust running 26 inch glasspacks. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out for the most part considering its my first old car I've done. Thanks for the good words (and the bad http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

Yeah I looked at that stuff and saw some on some bike parts. I wasn't that impressed and it is not cheap (...and I am.) I'll get them re-chromed eventually. Now hearing that from Kenny makes me feel like I did ok http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

DA the bumpers to shiny, polished steel, blow them off w/ your air hose (don't touch them!), then clear over everything.

It'll only cost but a few bucks and will make all the difference.

yeah, tony bones has the right idea for those bumpers, he beat me to it. otherwise, it looks like a lot more than $6500, that's awesome http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

let us know what you do (if anything) with the bumpers...
