Stupid question...GM 10 bolt rearend fluid capacity?

Sorry for the lame question...Does anyone know how many quarts of 90 WT a GM 7.5 10-bolt rear out of a mid-80's S-10 pick-up should hold? I've searched the net and I can't seem to find an answer.

While we're at it, is there a website that lists fluid capcities for all makes/models of rearends? 9 inch, 8 inch, Dana, etc?

I just put a 10 bolt under my truck last month. I don't recall it taking more than a quart and a half. Of course I had one quart that was about 3/4 full I emptied that into it and then started a new one. I tdidn't finish it, but then I started filling the tranny so I can't tell how much was really left... But I'm pretty sure it's not more than 2 quarts...

Little rears like the 7.5 take about 2 qts, larger ones like the 9 inch and Dana 60 take 3 or so.

Fill it to within half an inch of the bottom of the fill plug hole, and you should be fine.

Just did mine yesterday, smae setup 10-bolt, 7.5 with the cover removed and completly dry it took just a hair over 2 qts

If you want to get confused about filling rearends, read some factory owners and service manuals. The consensus seems to be somewhere between about half an inch below to running out.

In real life, I usaully fill them up till it runs out, because it's easy to tell when it's full, and I love cleaning up spilled gear oil.

Thanks guys...I actually managed to round up nearly three quarts in the garage, so I didn't have to go buy any 90 wt afterall. It's amazing what I can find in the garage if I actually clean up a little. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
