Wow I just got home from an incredible auction - 50 years collection of Model T and Model A stuff with some misc Chevy stuff for fun. A local 80 year old man is selling out and if he had one he had 30 of everything!
I got a great rustfree A cowl and window frame for $25! Also many mid 30's rear ends, A & T axels, spindles, dozens of headlights, complete 40 front axel with spindles and Juice brakes for $20. Took me three loads with the pick up to get it home. Here is some photos!

That cowl you got looks really nice.. Would love to have it as the start of a Model A woodie project I want to get going one (just cant fine a clean and decent priced cowl like that..) $20 for that pile of steel, wow...

Nice score....
A stupid question assuming somebody willing to give up their secrets, is there a trick to finding these type of auctions ? I check local papers & never see anything advertised.
Thanks,
Steve

BigDaddy...If you live up in rural Michigan, the 'secret' is word of mouth, or simply going for a ride. I found lots of stuff like that when I lived up there, and local friends pointed me to a "junkyard" back off the beaten path. It's really just an old guy with tons of old cars on his property, but he does sell the cars and parts to those who ask. Usually dirt cheap, too. I needed an 8" Ford rear carrier, and he quoted me a price of $15 if I pulled it out of the car! He had a four door 58 Chevy at the time, too. Six cylinder rustbucket, but it ran and drove for $200! I was tempted, but really didn't have a clue what to do with it back then....wish I woulda seen Choprod's project....I woulda bought it in a heartbeat!!

Fat Hack has it nailed! There are many old time collectors up here which us hounds are just waiting to see them liquidate. There is also an 60 acre unliscensed salvage yard which is just 20 miles from here and has 100's of late 40's to late 60's cars just like the one I bought in Calumet Mi last year. The guy who runs it is being hassled by the State of Michigan and the local township so if he doesn't know you - you dont get in. Fortunatly I have spent a fair amont of $ there so still get to pick away at it.
Here is a photo or two.

Godamn Zoning NAZI's!!!! They don't Know, or even Care that guys with places like the one in the pic are so completely scarce in more than just Our Rustbelt. They should appreciate what he has as much as WE do! That's really something that SEMA should get involved with. A Federal Law that protects treasures of automotive heritage sustainment! What that guy needs to do is set up a 'trust' before it's too late. It needs to be in effect for 5yrs for anybody else to be able to keep the place protected in Any way if he should pass on. Sadly a local hadn't done that. He had Plenty of time, was in failing health for nearly 17yrs, but his horde of 30's-70's stuff was HIS all HIS, for sale to only those he Wanted to sell to and No others, none of the family was gonna get their hands on it either. Not like he could help eventually dying. His neice ended up with the property but couldn't keep and didn't even Want any of his treasure, had to call in the crusher. Sadly I found out about the whole affair days after they left with all the goodies! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif 6mo. had gone by with little notice of anything unusual and I missed out on the trove.
Hey Levis! I'd Love to come up and take a walk thru that place with ya some time if you don't think bringing a stranger along would hurt your relationship with him. Even if I couldn't buy anything personally, a day walking in the discards of the past is something worth making a day of to me!!!!

Apparently it wasn't advertised well. Also it was on a Friday! I can't understand why it wasn't on the weekend. Oh well there loss was my gain.
I also bought like 20 Model T running boards at the auction. I bet you could make a cool bed for a Model T or A Pick up. They all have a nice Ford script on them and are about 30" long. Maybe one on each side for side rails and a couple on the bottom for a bed. What do you think?
