any diesel techs in the house?
Gas prices are killing me so I thought I'd take some hippie technology and build a rod that runs on Veggie oil.
It's free, restuarants pay people to haul the crap off.
I think this is a traditional endevour in the sense that rodders have always taken available tech and bent it to our speed fiendin' ways http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

do a google search on biodiesel,
and the same search on a cat named "charris ford",
he runs straight veggie oil.

You like french fries and fried chicken? Hope so, you'll be smelling like them.

That'll get you a new handle for sure! "Sniff sniff...hey whats that smell? I know! Here comes the Crisco Kid!"
I think the way that works is the engine starts on diesel, and after warming up you can switch it to veggie oil. I'm sure theres more to it than that, but thats the idea.
There was an article floating around not long ago on how to do it. Check on Google and the Dept of Energy alternative fuels site.
Good luck!!

Yahoo has a Bio-diesel group as well as Veg and 'Wastewatts'.
Correct that it starts on Diesel, then the hot coolant from the engine is routed to a heat exchanger in a separate fuel tank where it thins out the grease so it flows well enough.
Greasel is the term most often used.
I've got a Mercedes Diesel slated to go into my Volvo 445 Wagon.
feel free to PM if you can't find anything.

I read a good article in Mother earth news a few years back about some College engineers that built a small refinery to "crack" the veggie oil. The towed it behind a little Peugot powered motor home and ran on the stuff straight. I think they went on a 10,000 mile trip just fueling up at the McD's dumpsters. They said the exhaust smelled like french fries.
I know a guy who filters it and mixes it 30% with diesel and runs it in his generator for his household electricity. You can do the same with used motor oils.

Biodiesel is now here in Maine, scarce, expensive, but available, but basically no reason why you can't make your own.
Heat tank with an arctic fox unit, and put a switch in the line to switch from regulardiesel once your upto temperature and away you go.
