.... some build-up photos as well.
No, I didn't have the opportunity to attend but have been kept up to date with the progress for more then a year. I've been given the go ahead to post some photos finally. I just thought some of you might enjoy seeing some photos of this AWESOME RPU that will be completed by the begining of March and debute in Detroit at the Autorama.
The workmanship speaks for itself. Enjoy

Is this their entry for the 2005 Ridler ?
I thought you weren't allowed to show the cars before Detroit.
Or is the interpritation of the "first time shown" rule a little more forgiving now?

Those monster wide-5's are too cool. Lots of nice work there! WWS
i hope this comes off as constructive criticism, not nit-picking, or keyboard hot rodding, but i was looking at the steering setup...first it was an asthetic issue, the drag link it too high, and the pitman arm looks like a window crank, then i was thinking about that short pitman arm, and the big diameter rolling stock, the long steering arm on the spindle to clear the tall tires, the short pitman arm...just how slow is the steering? and how tight can it turn? i really do like it though! i just dwell on details. there's tons i dig on it that i don't mention.

The craftsmanship is awesome and I hope someday I can build something that precise but for the style of the truck I can't help but think it looks a little too sanitary. Its like a scientist took a rat rod back to his clean room. Just my opinion though. Thanks for sharing.

The craftsmanship is obvious. The look is great. I don't care for the wheels. I don't hate them- they just remind me of, um,.... well,.... trailer wheels. Like off a mobile home. I don't get what they were after. They are obviously one of a kind but they aren't hand crafted like the rest of the pickup- they were machined weren't they. I guess for the competition, they needed something you can't buy off a shelf. BUT wouldn't some CAST wheels had a "grittier" look and could have been unique. Expensive but maybe even more "one of a kind". Just my opinion.
Dan
Wow!!! That has to be the world's most beautiful RPU. That wood floor is just beyond words. Who sais you can't do new things in a traditional way.
The only thing I would like to see different is the front door line follow the cowl line a little more. Just like in the drawing. To do so the hinges would have to go and it would loose a little character. So I guess it's better the way it is.

You could get grins from anything with a Hemi in it - even an engine stand. Probably even a Honda!!
I think this thing is a true work of art. Unbeleiveable attention to detail. I love it. But I am wondering about the suspention. It doesn't appear to have much in terms of a front spring - especially for one of the fattest engines a mortgage can buy. I don't (read can't) see a shred of the springs/shocks on the rear. It sure sits low and it really looks rad, but I dunno, it doesn't look like it'd be fun to ride in for more than a 1/4 mile http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif not that there's anything wrong with that.......
Has anyone here ever ridden one of the old Harleys that has the oil tank sticking out and poking you under your leg...Not bad for the first 10 minutes, but after that... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ...that's what the seats remind me of.......
And I still like it.....
It looks like the rendering was calling for a Ford engine, that would have been more origional. Not as powerful, or "traditional" but more origional. Come to think of it - I like the change to Hemi. How can you beat that?
As for the Ridler, who cares......

Headlights are too low. Firewall would look nicer if it was't so flat. Bedsides look too flat also. Nice 32 though.
What colour they gonna paint it? Or are they gonna do something new and leave it unpainted?
Seriously, I'm interested in that front suspension too...being so far back and so flat.
Broman...looks like they were just using the main leaf for mock up purposes and add the rest of the leaves later. We've done it that way before and it's a lot easier to handle. The front shocks do look to be on an extreme angle. Can't tell if they are cantilevered or not.
I can't see any shocks on the back either. It looks like the typical 4 bar set up with the lower bar being a 1/4 eliptical spring.
I don't know about the seats but it should ride OK.

I guess the truck is serving it's purpose - looking good. After it goes through it's show life though and someone actually tries to drive it......I dunno.
It's definatly out of my range - in more than one way. It's neat, that's for sure. I like the cohesiveness in the design. the repeated circles and lightening holes are done well - not over done, and they serve a purpose. With the copper highlights I'd hope to see this thing in a dark shade for contrast. Like a REALLY dark green...or black. Should be tits when it's finished. The dash is very cool. I noticed some folks saying that it was too flat, but I disagree. They cleaned up some of the business that us HAMBers usually enjoy working around and yet it still has character - a lot more character than a (insert witty name with a "-ster" suffix) -mobile. Maybe because they used steel/metal and beat it into shape. Craftsmanship.....
The sad part is that it's destined to be a trophy whore. I for one never give a shit about trophies.....just my own quirk - to each his own. I'd be satified in just building it.
p.s.
Disregard the Hemi question, I was thinking the distributer was in the front on all Chrystler V8s. My bad, I jumped to the conclusion that it might be fake or be the 04 Hemi. Guess that shows how many Dodge/Chystlers that I've had....

I don't understand how this thing didn't win AMBR - even at the GNRS this thing stood out above everything else, even Moal's car with all due respect. I must have spent half an hour staring at it, it's just on another level. It was really refreshing to see a tastefully stripped-down contender in an era of smoothed-out and shrouded sweepstakes cars. I think Indian Larry called it 'seeing the mechanicalness' of it. Hopefully more 'builders' clue in.

You and I both know Royce DRIVES his cars.... even on the salt. No doubt in my mind this RPU will get driven ALOT after the indoor show circut.
Not to throw cold water on Pinkee's cars...or the fact the "Royce" drives his cars, but I go to a lot of rod runs around the ColoRODo area...and I've NEVER ONCE seen any of Pinkee's eight (or so) cars he's built driven to or from a rod run...matter of small fact, I've never seen any of them at small rod runs...they are only taken to the larger shows where they are almost guaranteed coverage of some sort (like GoodGuy's events).
My friend Jim Fynes had Pinkee's (and I know Eric Perat personally) build a '49/'50 Ford sedan...built a wagon out of it with a Ford SOHC in it (Jim is General Manager of Phil Long Ford), it's won a ton of awards...but it hasn't been seen for the last couple of years...it does not get driven to rod runs...I doubt it gets driven at all.
Would you put a car that cost you half a million dollars (or more) on the street with all the soccer Moms, driving SUV's , kids yelling in the back and a cel phone stuck to their ear?
Guess it depends on how much discretionary income you have...but I'll stick to my original comment: I've NEVER seen any of Pinkee's cars (artwork) on the streets and highways around Denver going to or coming from a rod run/event. Just the same, I can be proven wrong...

Oh Wow.
THanks for bringing it to the top - that thing is gorgeous. The more rpus and T's I see - the more I want an open roadster.
This Rpu is amazing. Who knows how much it cost to build - but I hope they drive the bitch around!

He has driven it around. In fact over the weekend Royce mentioned that one of the baffles fell out and the RPU is so loud that he needs to get that sorted out because it's so deafening it's uncomfortable.

The craftsmanship is obvious. The look is great. I don't care for the wheels. I don't hate them- they just remind me of, um,.... well,.... trailer wheels. Like off a mobile home.
Would that make them "Double Wide" 5's?
nice ride...a shame to cover up all that execllent metal work
