If anyone out there has one they can take a couple of measurements off of....Id appreciate it. I picked up a lengthened one the other day (over a foot), and I'll be shortening it for the bike I'm working on now.
Thanks-Jeff

I've got an I beam springer on my '37 should be the same overall length as the oval tube ones. I'll checxk it later and post the info.

Well I took over 20" out of that old springer this afternoon. It'll put the bike where I want it, length looks about like a stocker now. I'll post a couple pics of the bike as it gets further along.
But I'm still curious what the original dimensions are.

Nimrod, My 1937 I-Beam spring is 25 inches from the centerline of the rocker hole to the top. This may differ from the later oval tube springers. Did they use Ford radius rods to make the extended springer?

If you have a 45 project or any pre 1950 Harley you need to check out www.flatheadpower.com (http://www.flatheadpower.com) click on the Tech Talk and pick a section. The 45 section is very popular and the guys are as helpful as the HAMB guys.

True enough - a few of them do have rather large & easily bruised egos though. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks. And yes they did use old radius rods for the extensions.

Nimrod, took a measurement off of my springer and came up with 14.25 inches from the center of the rocker hole to the bottom of the cross piece that the fork stem is mounted to. Measurement was taken along the outside of the leg. Hope this helps.

That does help Super88. Looks like after taking 20" out of it I'm still about 1.5" over stock lenght. Thanks.
