I have a 47 Ford, I want to put a super dual intake on it. I am running a GM alt. with external regulator. Will it fit in front of the carb? My buddy has his one wire in front of trips on his later flatty, but I know this will be close. Yay or nay?

Possibly, but you will most likely be struck by lightning for executing a blasphemous sin.

I'm new to this board, and I got to tell you I'm a little disappointed, I did not think the word alt was allowed, That is an injustice to a super duel intake, not to mention the flathead.

Hey hey hey, in my defense it was on there when I bought the car a month ago. And it is an external regulated unit, so it's old...And I tried to talk my friend into putting a generator on his fake deuce too! He chose against it because he wanted it to fit in front of his trips. At least if I can fit it infront of a super dual intake I can live with it.

That's a really good question.

I think that the Super Dual has less room for a genny/alt than most triple intakes, so it's hard to judge from your friend's setup.

Where do you buy your hotrod parts? If it's a good shop, they could give you accurate dimensions. Or, you could order the part, and return it if it does't fit.

I'll be curious to hear the outcome.

Oh, and it IS sacrelige, and kinda goofy to have an alternator in front of a Super Dual intake. Are you using Rochester carbs?

you can laugh at the genny people when they pack it in or hit an animal on the road coz their lights are shit.

Its not sacrilige, I love the look of the genny but you have to be realistic if you actually DRIVE your ride at night. some in the US is making gennys with alternators inside, so the best of both worlds, but have read varying reports on flathead forums...

Thanks Deuce, I'll keep you all posted. Flatoz, great motor! I'll give you $10 for the intake, if you throw in the carbs. LOL

The thing is, on my 47 the alt seems to sit back further than on flatoz's because it's a 59AB engine, so I might not have the room you have. I want to run Holley 94's like flatoz has got.

I was hoping to find a good used intake, but I might buy new. I like to deal with the few local speed shops that are left. Problem is, the local speed shops are getting to be towns, and now states away.

Plus my car has a hood, so I'm not too worried about having a fully chromed out engine yet, just as long as it's neat and presentable when I open the hood.

By the way flatoz, your steering is on the wrong side http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif j/k

I have a Super dual on mine and the alternator would not fit in front. I had to use on offset bracket for mine. These intakes are suppose to be the best in dispensing fuel and air into the plenums but the space issues make them suck. The only other alternative would be to use a carb spacer to lift the carbs high enough to allow for the alternator. here's mine. Not a good angle though.

yeah, that flathead looks like shit with the alt, Ive run my car all over the country, hard, with a generator. and genuine ford stuff, before you had all this hi tech flathead junk there selling, with no problems, and before it was popular. and by the way, my lights work fine.

Well, the Offy Super Dual is the same part as the Offy 3 deuces setup, it just doesn't have the center carb. The Edelbrock spreads the carbs just a touch more so it has slightly less room than the Offy. I've seen it done but you need waterpumps from a late engine or truck pumps. They have the pulleys & belts slightly more foreward to clear the angled distributor on the 49/53. You'll probably have to make your own cradle for the distributor or run a spacer.

I wish all these guys who say run a generator would give me a good 12 volt one. All I ever find is rusted solid 6 volt boat anchors. My 12 volt polished Chevy 1 wire was $89.00 and I can get another one at any parts store in the country.

Late setup puts the inner pulley sheave considerably farther out than early. Also, super duals are not all the same.
If the thing is already mounted on the single, you should be able to measure to a known point like the first manifold point, and calculate from there. I suspect it won't go on a 59A, but you might be able to mount it with a slight offset still anchored in the middle rather than moving it over to a head.

if you look at my photo, you will notice that I had to make spacers to get the alternator out to line up with the water pump pulleys,

I personally dont like the look of an alternator, but hey, a good genny is hard to find and I want Iron clad reliability ( hypocracy considering I run a flathead I know http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

but what about one of the drive of the driveshaft ones?? then you dont have to run the alternator in the engine bay at all????? just a thought....

My lights work fine. It's a little known fact that people used generators for 50 years before alternators became popular.

Crease, dont know if you've ever seen the size of a male kangaroo, but they do some serious damage, and genny powered lights down here are ok for around town,

but once you get out of town there are too many kamikazi animals on the roads wombats will tear you sump out, kangaroos will total your car and the bastards actually aim for cars!. So you really need to be able to see distances. on the drive to Western Australia, you just DONT drive after dusk as people get killed by hitting kangaroos. The only ones to keep going are the roadtrains and there more dangerous than the roo's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As I said, if you wanted a genny you could hook one up , but run an alternator off the driveshaft. best of both worlds http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Gearjammer, I must have missed the pictures of your deuce. That's an impressive flat motor. Got any more pictures of the car? Is that a tach drive on the back of the battery recharger?
