First in flames?
Jim Lytle brought us many thrilling rods.
An example... "Big Al". A 34 sedan with an Allison
12 cylinder aircraft engine and "Quad Al"; that one had four Allisons!
Jim liked horsepower!

My subject this week is one of his earliest cars.
A chopped and lowered Deuce with a full-race Hemi.
Rod & Custom, in September of 2006 mentioned
that this car is likely the first car painted with flames.
The car was red in front and canary yellow in the rear.
13.2 seconds at 107 mph 50 years ago was pretty quick.

Here's the sketch and the final rendering.

I'm not an artist but I did frame my beloved Ed Roth decals this week. My framing skills are roughly on par with a retarded 5 year old Gorilla, but it's hanging above my couch anyway.

EDIT: After being warned about possible pain and suffering my post has/will/may cause because of the word "retarded", I have changed it to something more politically correct.

In no way do I intend any sort of slander or stereotyping of the majestic gorilla. They are glorious creatures that in fact have a very low rate of mental handicap among thier species. My comment merely reflected my picture framing skills with comparison so as to accurately describe how hard it was for me. But at least my girlfriend gave me graham crackers afterward. Back to the show...

RodP, Thats cool stuff, thanks.

GaryC, Do those headlights come with tread marks from tight turns? Cool picture, good luck.

Here's my first try at this...

I've been following this thread for many months and truly enjoy looking at everyone's artwork, always amazing stuff.

I picked up a free pair of glass 56' Chevy fenders. I spray bombed them, added lettering, pinstriped the letters and hung them in my garage. I wanted them to appear "aged".

The second is in the trunk of my 55'. Just started striping earlier this summer, lots of fun but has been equally frustrating at times.

Wow... another killer start! Gary, Rocky... incredible talent! Jigger, I dig it so far (and will probably dig it in perfect proportion as you further!) Too much good stuff... LOWCAB, Pacheco, DutchCourage... I'm on overload already....

I'll warn you ahead to break out the red/cyan 3D glasses... I played a bit with this piece (check out the Dec. R-n-C for big-size goodness), and decided to create a more "dimensional" version.... A lot more work than I thought it'd be, but the results are cool and fun... Hope ya dig it:

Here's something Ive been working on this week. Full Back for a Dickies Jacket. Ive still got to Digitize the BLACK WIDOW Lettering, but here is the 1st proof of the spider.

Gary, that is freakin' awesome. That car reanks pretty high up in my top ten favorite cars of all time. Excellent job. I remember seeing pics of "Big Al"......absolutely nuts-o car too!

Oh I am gettin in on some of this action ! I sent these to Cole foster as an aside lookin for a quote for some mettle work on my car. Any way when i saw he was workin on an econoline in the mooneyes yokahoma video my mind wandered around what it would look like done. Never heard from him after that I guess they or I pissed him off? Either way just started wondering how he would build and econoline and it spiraled to this. enjoy

Super Cool Stuff this week! Inspiring!

Here's something Ive been working on this week. Full Back for a Dickies Jacket. Ive still got to Digitize the BLACK WIDOW Lettering, but here is the 1st proof of the spider. So far, its 80,000 Stitches......and has 20 hrs, digitizing, editing, and playing with color combos to match the colored pencil sketch that I was given to work from. See it in person at the Hunnert!

Yeah, like 50c per 1000 for the Production, plus digitizing. Unfortunately for me, I dont like to cut corners and always try to push the limits, digitizing ends up less than the Chinese rate. They are some good wall hangers and contest material though. Should beat up on the ole ladys at the county fair with some entries. Next week Ill submit the Daddy Katz logo!

Crazy stuff there Sonny! I posted too late on the thread a couple of weeks ago that included the wacked out "Space Caddy from Uranus". I was wonderin' what you made the saucer out of? I had a similar idea for a project like it. Polar Lights has The Jetson's spaceship, but I was thinking something bigger.

It's just a texture, mate. I work 100% digital now, mostly with Painter X.

I did this one for Warner Brothers back in 1996, it turned out to be a huge selling poster for them.

Well I'm late, and it's bike stuff not car stuff, but if somebody local had the balls to let me paint their ride I could post some car stuff. I guess WI isn't ready to see this kind of stuff on a car....

Mad Mark, I started with a Mars Attacks saucer I found on e-bay and modified the hell out of it. Sonny

Thanks Sonny. The Caddy fins really set it off! I like all your stuff, but I dig your 3D stuff the most. You did a really cool print for my buddy Bob in Topeka though.
And a big kudos to all the other artists out there. This is one of the neatest places for car culture art on the web.

Always dig your work GaryC. Neat history lesson there too. here's something new from me....

7' wide and 3' tall clear plexi. I put black trash bags behind it so i could tell what it would look like on a black wall.

Can't get my pics on the F.A.S.T. thread but I wanted to sing the praises of Prismacolor pencils like Zombie and Surf Monkey and Del. This was done in Prismacolor and they're highly smooshable and blendable. I've tried other brands and I'm with Del. Don't bother. Prismacolor is the best by far.
