I built this shifter for my custom norton, i took solid aluminum stock, hollowed most of it out on a lathe, and then walking through the hardware store i saw this Three way Air Hose attachment already colored translucent blue. looks cool and cheap.
always make your own shit when you can, anyone can throw money at a project, but if you make everything yourself, you really make something special.
keep on building!!!

I saw one today at the Mob town Grease ball. A hood ornament. The one where the girl is laying on her stomoch with her arms propping up her chin. Bolted vertically to the shifter, you grab her hiney as you push it up into second on a three speed. I thought it was different.

This is an antique lead glass door knob. I admired one in a friends car, so he dug around in his trunk for it's mate.

Yeesh,
Couldn't find a bigger tach Pigiron? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I am wondering if I should get a beer tapper for a shifter or go the hard route. What's the hard route you ask, well the hard route is to find a neat shot glass and drill a hole in the bottom of it. But I don't know how easy (or difficult) it is to drill into glass. I was goind to fill the glass with a brandy colored resin and tap the threads into that so I could actually use the knob to shift. Has anyone done something like that?
And speaking of resins....
How do guys like Tikiranch and Mcphail make the molds and what kind of resin do they use - is it at art supply stores?
....btw I never understood why people never put a 4-ball on their shifters when they have four speeds, and I never really put two and two together and realized that the 8-ball meant V8....DUH!!! I just thought it was used for it's "outsider" appeal (being the only black ball)....sometimes I wonder about myself.....

Just use a glass and tile bit from the hardware store. It will look like a arrowhead. Work slowly and don't force the bit.

Well I knew it was possible, I have seen some things at those god forsaken craft shows my wife drags me to....I saw one of those glass blocks (the kind they used to use for windows in brick building basements) with a hole drilled in it and stuff crammed into it. I figured if an old lady with a penchant for making tacky home furnishings can do it I can too....
Now I just need more info on resins and stuff like that. Anyone? For the shot-glass a clear resin with a brown tint and for the skull/devil-heads etc....what do they use? And how do they make the molds? Ohh and what are the molds made of ?!?! SHEESH, I don't ask for much do I?

Hey Broman,
Check out this website: http://www.alumilite.com/howto.cfm
The company alumilite makes all the resin stuff you'll need. The website also has a great "How To" section on making all different kinds of molds, like 1 piece, 2 piece, etc and shows some examples of casting different items like model cars and stuff....could easily be used to take a mold from an existing skull and cast a new one!! Hope this helps
I'm going to cast my own shift knob too...except I am going to take a mold from a 4 to 5" Tiki and cast it from aluminum then polish it up nice and bright http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a "6" ball on my Hurst because my car is green and white, it's color coordinated.
I used to run a huge shifter, but the throws are so long and with an automatic it can get a little sloppy. I like the shorter handle in my '57 now, classier and more accurate. The last thing I need is to miss a shift and blow my motor.
Here's my Tiki knob on a 23' shifter. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-12/905726/dash-knob.jpg
