Is it straight wired to a hot fuse instead of a switched fuse

He's right, it only reads low pressure when your car is off so the light comes on......
The good news is that you got good oil pressure.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The way it is supposed to be wired is ignition switched 12v hot, through the light, and then to the sender for grounding. The sender grounds when oil pressure is low, such as when your car is not running. Somehow, your 12v is not going through a switched circuit. You need to wire the 12v so it is hot with ignition and no voltage when the ignition is off. Problem solved.

If this is a new happening, I'd check the ignition switch. It sounds like even though your switch is off you are getting a hot feed to oil light circuit.
