Has anyone here taken a welding class in the Southeast Michigan area? This is something that I NEED to do.. I've been putting it off forever, and if i'm ever going to build a car the way I want it.. I need to be good at it..

SO, a friend of mine wants to take the class with me.. If there is one. I know there's an ICAR course at OCC but that's more of "bodywork" than just welding, a little more than I want to get into right now.

Anywho... any input would be great.

Not specific to the Michigan area, I would check out any Vo-Tech schools or Community colleges in your area. They usually offer evening course on this sort of stuff and the cost is minimal. It's a good place to start and the basics will be taught.

WCCC and Henry Ford College both offer basic welding courses, or at least they USED to. Call or visit their websites for more info!

I took the ones at HFCC (Henry Ford), granted it was 15 years ago, but that's where I learend how to weld. They have a couple of different classes. The beginner class went over most types of welding Gas, Mig & TIG welding, well worth the time, then you can decide if you want to take the other classes. I did and don't regret spending the time or money.

My bro took and got the Associates Degree in Welding from Schoolcraft in Livonia. He learned alot and apprenticed for a really good guy. But if you don't want the degree, I am sure you can take the classes individually. Oh yeah, check the local adult ed too. I took the "night school" auto body class a couple of times, that helped too.

Good Luck,

Jason
