Thanks to my brother (radical56chevy) and VonTingler I started on my Gasser tonight. Seeing both of them build one I had to have one. Just what I needed another project.

Nice car to start with. Keep update's flowing. What are your wheel/drive-line selection's? These car's look great laying rocker's to way high. Neat background of ride's as well.

I found a 55 Desoto that still has a good running HEMI in it, fenderwell headers, chrome wheel's on the rear with cheater slicks and 12 spokes on the front. I'm taking the grille bar out and putting in a moon tank.

Jim call me first. I should be home all morning.
I'm hoping that I wont have to cut the frame, I might have to make it longer in the front for the spring hangers.

Is this all you guys do in Tenn is build Gassers???
I wanta' move to Tenny.....
What kind of front axle is that?? and what is the distance from king pin to king pin?? i'm trying to get ideas for my Dodge.

If thats the Speedway axle, the distance is 46" from kingpin to kingpin.
With a disk brake kit, you can add 10" which makes it 56" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.

Yeah, I did have a bus. I had trouble getting it home and the guy couldn't wait anymore for me and had it hauled off. I've been into gassers for ever.

ratster, that chevy is going to look good as a gasser. I was kicking around an early chevy for my gasser project until I found my '56. Bought the axle and springs this weekend, along with an old greenline tach from the sixties. I also just bought some low fiberglass seats from the sixties that I hope will work, I'm trying for "straight out of the sixties" look, no modern ammenities. Can't wait to see your chevy with the axle under it!!

How about a pic of that 55 DeSoto? Must be a nasty lookin sob. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Ratster is that galvanized fence post then?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Are you going to set up the steering with a cross steer? I was told that the cross steer was a better way to go that it absorbed more more of the bump steer. I dont know this will be my first attempt to build a gasser so i'm picking everyones brain that has one so i can do it right. If that is the speed way axle they only have the disc brake kit for the chevy spindle right?? or is it just the wilwood disc brake set up
Von Tingler is that your car in the picture box?? If it is what axle set up are you running?? Or is it fence post too?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jay, cross steer is the way to go, it makes for a much more stable vehicle.

No fence post. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is a speedway axle and I think VT used one of them with disc brakes. I'm using the 53 Chevy spindles and brakes on mine. Cad is right cross steer is better.
