View Full Version : My Dad, FLAMED COUPE in the hospital!

Hey Gang,

My Dad was admitted to the hospital with chest pains the other night. Initially, they thought he was having a reaction to a cortizone shot he was given on Monday, but after an angiogram this morning, they discovered he had a 95% blockage in one of the veins that rerouted the blood flow when he had a bypass 14 years ago.

Luckily, they were able to put in a stent and open the vein. He had a sudden allergic reaction to the dye they injected after the angiogram and the doctor said it could have been really serious if he hadn't responded well to the medicine they gave him to counter the reaction. That was really scary for us and he was pretty shaken up by it. He was awake when everything went wrong and he could hear the doctors yelling and running around, which had to be terrifying.

If all goes well, he'll be home tomorrow afternoon or by Saturday at the latest. Thought he'd want you guys to know.

Glad to hear he is doing well. My father was allergic to that dye they shoot in ya also. Was it that radioactive shit so they can x-ray and see the blockage?

I'm so glad to hear he is doing ok.

That's a scary thing to go through for him and you.
Tell him to take care of himself and get back here asap.

My Pop just had a stent put in after they found a 99% blockage a week after my Mom pass away. That was a close call, too close. He feels better now than he's felt in years. Here's hoping your dad feel the same.

Glad to hear he has responded so well from all the treatments and procedures he has been through. May a speedy recovery be in his future

Keep in mind and talk to the Doctors about this....usually the reaction to the dye is actually the iodine in the dye. If this is the case then he could very well be allergic to shellfish. Now that he has had a reaction he could be even more sensitive next time....meaning pop's is kicking back with a shrimp cocktail and all of sudden his airway starts to close up from the shrimp.

Do not mean to scare but make aware. ASK THE DOC about this before going to Red lobster. Enough of this before I get flamed for goin O/T http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Stacey, I just got a phone call from a friend to tell me about your Dad and I logged on to the HAMB to try to find your email address. I've never met you, but your Pop is one helluva guy! Your Dad sent me an email Monday saying your motor was about ready to go back in and that you had painted it Sunday, and I shot one back to him but got no reply, I just thought he hadn't checked his mail. Tell him that the whole gang from Louisville has him in our prayers and that Bruce (that should make him smile) will have something special for him the next time we get together! Take good care of him and get him healthy again, he is supposed to be the ring leader for our California trip next Father's day! Please keep us posted either here on the HAMB on via email. Here's a pic of your Dad parked with us at the Nationals. Take care, Tim http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/thirtytwotim/Dsc00638.jpg

Real sorry to hear that doll. Please give him our best.

The stent is a pretty magical thing and he will feel a lot better in pretty short order. Plus it's a whole helluva lot better than having bypass again.

Best of luck,

BDE

Dad was feeling much better when I just talked to him. Looks like they are going to let him get out of bed for a bathroom trip which is about as close as you can get to making his life complete.

We had a great laugh this afternoon... He had to pee pretty bad but he wasn't allowed to move for 3 hours. They gave him some sorta device so he could go without moving, but he said there was no way he was going to go laying down. I tried to encourage him and told him if he could manage to do it, we could make a HAMB tech out of it so that you guys could all experience the joys of relieving yourselves while still laying on a creeper under you car... Now THAT's multi-tasking! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

And no... he never managed to figure it out, so no HAMB tech for you! (FREAKS!)

Anyway, it's looking good for him to be released tomorrow... He's much more alert and seems to be feeling a lot better.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes, I read him the posts over the phone and he really appreciated all the kind words.

I had bypass 3 years ago. Scarry shit for me, more scarry for my family.
Glad he's doing well.
Keep his stress level down and his fun level up, and he'll be around for a long time to come!

Yea, that could be REAL scarry. Sue had a reaction to something at Louisville last year and got a ride in one of those high tech vehicles with the flashing red lights. Carries an epi-pen (sp?) now just in case.

Hope your dad gets back on the road soon.

Sounds like he will get going pretty fast. Hope all is well.

That sounds like a tragic event. I woke up when they were sewing me up once. NOT FUN! They put in a drain and closed up while I listened to it all.(Enough under couldn't talk)

Tell him to get back to the garage, and he will feel much better.

I talked to him last night, he was craking up coz he had to poop and they were making him wait until 7:30 (Will does not wait to take a shit!). His revenge was to stink up the bathroom and not use the spray. We travel alot together and he has some Orange scented spray for the the bathroom, it's so strong we swear you poop on the floor and spray this stuff on it, come back in an hour and the floor is clean, Stacey or her Mom packed it into his bag....anyway....I'm going over to see him tonight after work.
Thanks for all the well wishes...HotRod runs through this guys viens (pun intended), he is as true a friend as you will find.
