the french cars used the same engine as a base as was used in some 1937-1940 fords, known as v8-60 60 horsepower 17 bolt head flathead, it was popular in midget racing..

i think they got 85 hp out of the french engines as time went by still i like these small 17 bolt engines
they even made ardun heads for these engines
i belive those ardun heads are extremly extremly rare
i heard a figure of 17 made in total
if you find normal ardun heads expencive i bet you would have to pay 4 times atleast for a 17 bolt flathead heads..
and in my opinion they even look cooler then the big ardun heads

I'm not too sure of that, (or we're talking about something different altogether), but that engine got used up into the sixties in Simca cars, who then got sold in Brasil (or was it Argentina?) and those had the Hemi heads, they rolled of the assembly line like that, so 17 seems a bit low to me.

did some searching:

[ QUOTE ]
By the way, the last manufacturer to use the Ardun heads on the Ford flathead engine was Chrysler. In 1955 Simca purchased Chrysler of France for cash and stock, continuing to production the Vedette under the Simca name. In 1957 Chrysler purchased Ford's intertest in Simca and gained a toehold in a European auto manufacturer. When Simca stopped production of the Vedette in 1963 (or so), Chrysler shipped the tooling for the car and engine to Brazil. By the late 1960s the Chrysler Esplanada, as the Simca Vedette was now called, apparently continued to use the Ford block, but with Ardun heads. The last Esplanada was built in 1971.

We discussed the Brazilian hemi based on the V8-60 in a thread last year, which even included the first decent picture I have seen of one. It is not the same as the Ardun V8-60 but is interesting in its own right. The Rodder’s Journal has a wonderful cover article on Arduns including much information on the V8-60 version in its latest issue

Here are some websites to check:
www.v8ford.co.uk (http://www.v8ford.co.uk)
www.thepopshop.org.uk (http://www.thepopshop.org.uk)
www.ukkustoms.com (http://www.ukkustoms.com)

And a pic of one Pop that I altered a bit. Don't know the owner's name. I found the original on one of the websites listed.

hello HAMB'rs!

I noticed your threads on the Brazilian V8-60 OHV....
I have full technical information regading this unique engine. (it's more than an OHV conversion!)
I have attached a pic from the factory manual.

These engines and parts have become VERY hard to find,
I have been collecting pieces for sometime now.
I finally have enuf parts to justify the shipping costs.
And I will be shipping them home(USA)sometime in january.
When they arrive I will rebuild them and sell the extras!
