Went back to take a better look at the touring body (brought Frank (fab32) along as an advisor). Frank said it was too far gone (just as I suspected) for even HIM to fix.
We looked at 2 Ford PU cabs (a '40 & a '37). Again, too far gone. Damn! My new rod project is becoming a pipe dream. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
All was not a total loss. I dropped a deposit on a 59AB flatmotor. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

there's a 38 ford pickup down in my neck of the woods...atleast the last time i checked it was there...
SOLID cab, complete truck...extra hood and fenders, flatmotor and only $200...could be worth a trip down.

Hey Chris, that sounds like it's up my alley. I'll have to get back to you next week though.

Don't get discouraged. You are a lot better off waiting for a project that you will be able to complete, than wasting dollars on junk.

Yeah, that's my thinking too. But you know how it is when you get all pumped up about something, then it goes south?
I'm sure something better will come along.

Maybe if I was a bodyman I'd think differently.
On the '40 cab they had 'glassed the rear of the cab, inside and out. The floor and firewall both had been 'glassed. Both door bottoms were rusted out, and around the windshield. The '37 cab was worse.
I'm a patient man, I can wait................ok, who's got something to sell me! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think that changes as your experience and talents grow. Lots of guys got discouraged and never got to enjoy a hotrod because they bit off more than they could chew.
I love those Chevy trucks. Yours looks pretty solid to me.
One of my favorite picture captions from R&C little pages said something like "it'a little rough to start with" A tow truck had a 31-ish Chevy roadster on the hook complete with the fabric still on the top bows!!!!! Times have changed.

I know all about 'too far gone'. My '34 Morris Eight was the rusty-as-hell top three fourths of a bodyshell, and the rest I've had to make by hand. The bastard has been fighting me all the way and two years into it I am getting sick of the sight of the bloody thing.
Todays excitement was starting to fit the original-but-scruffy passenger seat, only to find that woodworms have reduced the timber parts to dust!!!!!!
The only way to get the wood out was to tear off all the original leather upholstery. It's just never ending!!!!
