Hi ya'll!! My dads been building cars his whole life and now I've inherited some hand-me-downs. I've been bequethed an unmolested 53? Hemi engine/trans (apparently pulled from a Desoto) to use a toe-stubber in my garage. Also a Ford Flathead. A few other misc. parts. All heavy. All greasy.
No disrespect...I love complete hotrods, but I want my garage floor back!! Dad says its ok to sell the Hemi, but wants to keep the flathead for the crankshaft. I think they both need to go. He lives 600 miles away in So. CA, in a tract home now with my mom, a ground up restore 32 3-window Ford Coupe, a ground up restore 71 Corvette, 2007 Corvette, 79 Chevy Stepside with 454 which he will want to sell soon, the original engine/trans for the 71 corvette with 60K original miles, Moms PT Cruiser and his Chevy S-10 drive around town truck. They have a three car garage. I have the eingine hoist. See the problem?

I joined here because I heard this would be a great place with great people to help me figure out what the toe-stubbers are worth and maybe find buyers.

Don't get me wrong. I love car guys/girls, spent many a night with my dad building cars in the garage and many a weekend at carshows. I think my friends consider me a motorhead. But I have no clue what's in my garage and I need help!! I have pictures...and I take direction well!!:D

Also, I received some info on the serial #'s on one of the toe-stubbers (the 1954 Desoto Firedome engine/trans). I Posted pictures in the Parts for Sale Forum. Comments would still be appreciated...

Welcome to the HAMB. Hang out here for a bit,then you may find that you will need to keep those "toe-stubbers",since you may find it necessary to join in, and build your very own "hot rod".;) Trust me,many others will help and guide you,to this goal.:D

Thanks for the welcome....Bowtie - if I were to build a car I would do a 69 Camaro. I had a 68 Firebird 400 in high school which I now understand is pretty rare...how stupid we are as kids..but hind sight is 20/20 isn't it? My dad disconnect the secondaries (his idea of a governer), put higher rear end gears in it (of course for better milage) and laughed at me when I twisted the driveshaft in half screwin' around at a stop sign. (but he fixed it for me anyway). Other times he left me on the side of the road to fend for my self...Example..Me on the pay phone.."Dad, my water hose blew up"...He to me..."Well, go buy the part and fix it". I suppose we all learn best when left to our own enginuity and dexterity...but don't get me started on accountability, self-reliance and "bail-outs".....
