Looking on ebay i saw this mess of a merc. i think it has to be the worst section job i have ever seen http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif and there is nothing good to say about the rest of the car except the shape of the 1/4 windows is good

if it was cheaper, it could be bought and fixed, but theres no way I'd pay what it looks like it's going up to just to have to fix all that bullshit...

and to think some one is willing to pay that much for a mess.
I'm don;t consider myself an expert on mid-century Mercs, but to me it looks like they just cut a bunch off the bottom od the car?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

WTF!!!!
Why the hell would they section a mid century Merc!! That fucker must of been hittin' the crack pipe.
It does look like a jag. It could be fixed if put in the right hands. The genius that did the work need to have the shit beat outta him for mutilating such a beautiful car. What a waste!!

What a shame!

09-22-2004, 06:27 PM
I agree with Duck. It probably had terminal cancer in the lower panels and a quick and dirty section job was the only way to treat it on the cheap. I hope he didn't actually pay someone $10,000 to do that work although I've run into so called body men who want to get paid up front and you get your baby back two or three years later looking like this Merc. Poor, poor and piss poor.

Kinda reminds me of a Hudson in some of the rear shots. Thats almost criminal, too bad whoever did it can't be prosecuted.

I'm seriously thinking about bidding on that sucker, slapping some sort of motovation in it and running the fuckin' wheels off of it. I will be a God! I will be the new visionary. I will be the trendsetter that started the newest craze. Discovery Channel will beat my door down and I will become rich beyond my wildest dreams!

"This Mercury has been chopped 4 inches and sectioned 4 inches"
And bastardized beyond recognition. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
"(not channeled)"
Thank the gods because who knows how bad these 'pros' would have screwed that up. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
"this is over $10,000 worth of work done."
Trust them on this. I'm their yard man and I do a full mow, edge, and weedeat for them at only $6,200 a week. But that's front AND back. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
"The car is from Arizona and has no cancer, minor surface rust only. No dents."
Because we cut the bottom off and filled the dents with 63.5 lbs of bondo. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
"Many parts of the chopping have only been roughed out"
And I mean ROUGH! ba-dump-bump!
Thank you, I'll be here all week. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yeah but I learned alot from the marker lines on the bondo. They are like an artist's brush strokes. You can really see how they were thinking it through and "sculpting" it in their head... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good thing he did not list in Hemmings Motor News. They have a rule that you cannot use the term CANCER for rust. I think this came from the late managner who died of cancer. He said cars get rust people and animals get cancer. It is a slow painful death.SORRY for the rant Thank You... Bobby..

It dosen't even look like a true section job. It looks like they cut the lower 4 inches off the car. Anyway it still looks like a clown shoe.

I have sectioned a 51 & a 50 Merc, and what I see is that the guy cut it in the wrong place. I have always made the cut above the rear quarters. In my opinion a mid century Merc looks good sectioned if done correctly. Another thing, why do ppl think you need to cut up a perfectly good Merc frame to put a fucking camaro stub under it? DAVE

If that were the case it would be on a mid 70's midsize GM frame and floor.
I think it would save if it was lowered, (the weight of an engine might do that in front anyway) and some lakes pipes and all the wheel openings radiused late '50s early sixties sporty-car custom style.
Maybe with a '56 Olds grill bar for a bumper like the Jack Stewart car.
