View Full Version : Triumph pics..
Went to check on my Triumph today and got some pics. I painted it and cleaned the frame up a little. The rest was done by one of the local motorcycle guys. I'm putiing a 56 Ford pick up together for him in trade for the bike. The truck has been slow to get done due to too much shit going on. Once I get it I think I'm gonna change a few things. I don't like the headlight and speedo mounted so high.
I'm not sure I'll even be able to ride the thing. My back is bad and I'm afraid the hard tail will aggrivate it.

I wasn't sure how the plain white would look over the candy blue flake but I like it.

Well I think there is only one thing you can do... give it to me for a paltry sum. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Clark,
I don't want you to hurt yourself anymore. So since I'm such a caring guy, you should give me a smoking deal on that there Trump!

Trade you for the suspended Trump I'm building now. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Damn that thing is looking nice. Your right about the light and speedo though. It needs low and flow.

Clark,
That's a nice looking bike! If it's too harsh of a ride, I'll trade you 2 Honda CB750's plus cash. You still haven't told me what you want for that Chevy header panel. Chopolds thinks it too rough to use, but it's enough to use as a form.

Nice looking bike Clark. It will be a shame if you can't ride it but back problems don't need to be aggravated.

Where are the training wheels? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'm gonna try ridin it but if it hurts it will go.
Ed ...don't worry about the panel.
Larry...The training wheels go on next week. Do you think the "snobby action" tires will work? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

nice sportster you got there!
have you seen pics of the triumph i built? i used an adjustable air shock and built a bellcrank/pushrod mechinism to suspend the seat, it rode fucking excellent. i have a bad back myself, and i could ride that bike with low stock type bars forever without back pain. it was more comfortable than most of my cars i've had. hit me up if you want any details to give it a try yourself. or ask 38chevy454.
I figured I'd catch a little flack for the sportster tank. It came on the bike. The bike was an old chopper with the frame all molded and looking shitty. It had a springer front with a little tire on it. I didn't like it and wanted more of a bobber style. The neck of the frame had sheetmetal welded on both sides with about a gallon of bondo on it. I got rid of all that an added to the gusset and drilled it. The rest of the frame just needed a lot of bondo removed and some welds fixed.
I wish it would have had the Triuph tank. They have better lines but I wouldn't have been able to paint it like I did.
The bars would have to be changed along with a better seat. The leaning forward will hurt as much as the bounce. We'll see. I like the look of the straight bars.
Here's the drilled gusset at the neck. I'm gonna try to route the cables a little better.

True, 'Plunger' rear frame sections are available. It's no Softail but it does cushion the ol'arse a bit.

And they make for a hell of a "thrill" ride when you roll hard into a turn (or even not so hard into a turn) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Clark - That sporty tank looks fine, but I've got an old peanut tank that would look good on it too. Its just like the tank on this bike (which is why I originally got it)...

If you're interested, I owe you for that overrider you've got for me anyway, so let me know...

Clark, that bike looks good. I agree about the headlight -- move it down.
I have a bad back as well and have had four spinal injections since March. I ride my chopper without problems, so don't give up on your before you try it. My bike doesn't even have a sprung seat, just a little padded seat that sits on the frame. I also have drag bars. It's not as bad as it looks.

well, the plunger frame is not what Iīm thinking about, the hub itself had some kind of bump absorber thingie in them, never saw one in pieces to know how it worked, but I guess there was some rubber thing..stuff..uhm..?

Sprung hub was an Indian trick (shortlived), and moved onto Triumphs as well (shortlived as well). You think plungers roll wack-job in corners, those things were just plain wrong.
Curt..sounds like a hell of a deal to me. I don't think I'll change this tank just yet. Maybe if the paint gets screwed up.
Haring ...4 injections?? That's not good. They told me not to get more than 3. I had 2 and I'm doing pretty good now. Don't think I'll be able to go back to work (UPS) but I will survive with out an operation. Thanks for the positive word on it not hurting the back. Funny thing was my RPU was the best vehicle for me to ride in when my back was really bad. The seats in the rest of our cars were too soft.
